and feel pretty motivated. I will not be fat at 40 and I ave a half marathon to run in 4 months so I have to do this.
how have you found the diet? Have you lost much? And what do you eat on fast days?

Crackerbreads are great as they are 19 cals eat with laughing cow light cheese triangle. Soup etc.i used to save most cals for dinner. Only drink water and dont waste cals. Blueberries are fab and cherry toms if you can eat them alone x
I can't remember tbh. Was it easy, did it work?

Which book did you go for?
I'm afraid to say I'm not losing anything, in fact my weight has been going up since starting it again about 3-4 weeks ago - even last week when I did a 4:3! But I'm hoping it's because my thyroid meds are too high so hopefully after my blood test next week I can reduce them and start losing weight. I really expected my things too improve after I had my coil out last month, but even that hasn't helped. I'm getting so fed up with myself and my weight at the moment, but don't go on my example because there's so many people who have lost weight on it.
There's a couple of groups on FB you could join, both very good, and also closed groups so it doesn't appear on your timeline if you're not wanting to let all your friends know about it - let me know and I'll send you links to them.
On my fast days I tend to skip breakfast as once I start eating I find I don't want to stop! Plus my stomach will start grumbling much earlier than if I miss it. Lunch is either a salad or a whole tin of soup (I've found quite a few that are less than 100 cals), then dinner will be fish or chicken breast with some sort of veg, often stir fry veg fried in fry light with a bit of soy sauce. I also have some zero noodles I have sometimes to bulk it out a bit, and sugar free jelly for something sweet to end the day.
I drink loads of water with the odd cup of tea or diet lemonade.
I'm not one for experimenting much with food so stick to what I know will be within my calories, although tonight we've got pork skewer kebab things with a chilli sauce (75cal per skewer).

Thanks Deedee. I went with this one www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Big hugs to you. I can so relate to how you feel as my weight gets me down dreadfully. Fingers crossed it is your thyroid issues and they get resolved soon.
I've joined those fb groups thank you.
I'm going to start today I think, maybe I should read the book first but I jst need to make a start so fasting today. Wish me luck.

Thanks MrsC, hopefully it'll sort itself out soon - I'm fed up of my clothes being tight and not being able to wear a lot of them at the moment, but I don't want to buy new ones as I want to lose weight!
Good luck with your first fast, I'm on a fasting day today too, although I usually do them when I'm at work but I'm stuck at home all day today so it will be a bit harder. You just have to remember that it's just one day, and tomorrow you can eat whatever you want - within reason of course!
Don't know if you ever go onto DW, but there's a girl over there who's lost an amazing amount since Christmas - I think she's done a mixture of 5:2, plus limiting calories on four of the other days with one day completely off. Really has worked for her, I just wish I had her will power!
03/07/2013 at 10:02
Deedee as the 5:2 is another fad diet and you seem to already have issues with your thyroid I would speak to your GP about this diet. As essentially you are starving yourself 2 days a week. That's not going to help regulate your body.
You may find you are not loosing on 5:2 because your body is going into starvation mode and will store any fuel you put into it.

I just wanted to say I can see why some think of it as a fad diet, its just the latest thing, blah blah, but really it's probably the way we should all eat. Humans do not need food in abundance, historically we would never eat three meals a day, every day. I found the book really inspiring and informative, it makes scientific sense, even with my limited knowledge!
We all think 'I can't concentrate' if we're hungry but again, the book is fascinating, that actually fasting can sharpen the brain, it's all in the mind!
I am a greedy pig, but I found this the easiest way to lose weight. And I've done them all! I only lose a pound a week but I'm not excercising at the moment.
03/07/2013 at 10:29
I agree Beez, there's also other health benefits other than the weight loss and people have been fasting in similar ways for years, and although you aren't eating much on 2 days a week, your body doesn't have the chance to get into the starvation mode because you eat normally on the other days (I'm sure there was a bit in one or both the books about it, can't remember what it said now) - you have to be consistently not eating for that to happen.

I'm thinking of doing this as struggling to diet at the moment. When I'm in the right frame of mind I can usually stick to diets but I am useless and have no willpower when anxious or stressed! I've gained a stone since just before xmas. Is it any good. Is it worth getting the book?

Just bought the book! :-)
