It's all change for the Pontypines from the beginning of next term.Erin and Arthur have places at a school near our house.Something I've waited for years for.We can walk to school,it takes ten minutes. It's a lovely school,we saw it this morning, they start November 3rd.
We haven't been happy with the old school for a long while, but the final straw was the council making all the surrounding streets resident only parking, with just a dozen if that 2 hour spots two streetsaway. We started looking for a new school and looked at Ofsted reports and the results tables for the local school, and it turns out they all back up what I thought ,particularly commenting on poor quality lessons and more able pupils not being noticed by teacherswhen they finished work, which I had long suspected. The only praise they gave was for the headteacher managing the move to the new building well.I wish I'd looked at those results before.
The new school has glowing reports, the highest results in the area.Today we visited,it was lovely. Each child is treated as an individual, they follow the child's particular talents and interests to teach them rather than the whole lot taught together.Something right up Erin's street, they get the children to write stories and make them into books for the school library.Arthur wasn't impressed till they told him there wasa policeman outfit in his classroom.
The school house no nursery as such, which was a bit of a worry, but there's a preschool within the grounds which is in effect just that, only it's a lot less formal and more flexible than we've been used to at the old school.I put Arwen,Matilda and Merlin's names down there to start when their time comes.
No space at the attached Junior School for Harry and Bridie,so we've got them still going to the old school.Since we have to both start at the same time they're going to have to walk themselves to school. Not happy at all but the children in Harry's class are starting to do that now anyway so I'm just going to have to let them do it.
That'sprobably too many words.
I'm very excited, except about the letting the older ones walk alone, that bits a bit scary

aw bless arthur, i hope they expand there fancy dress soon just for him!
sounds like a really lovely school, wow id have loved the writing books for the library!!
Its a shame the older two cant move, will they move school normally soon anyway? I have no idea we still have primary middle upper here!
I walked to school alone from yr 5 mum came the first day then we all walked alone, seems to still be how it runs here once middle schools started, unless its too far!
Best of luck jo and the pontypines, i hope your all happy with the new arrangements and everyone settles well xx x xx

Oh great Jo,good for you moving them, will Harry and Bridie get a placement in future?
I think you're going to have to bite the bullet on them going to school alone Jo,as you say there mates are already doing it,they'll probably love it-you'll have to bite your tongue. Hopefully a place will be available in the new school for them, good about putting the wee pontipines names down too-very organised
Hate the independance thing with kids!!!! Don't like the fact Tom loves Playgroup-god knows what I'll be like when he walks to school alone????? Be brave Jo x

Harry goesup to senior school next September,Bridie's gotthree years.I will put her name on a waiting list if they have one.
We have a couple of weeks,I'll let them walk ahead, and see how they do.One of Harry's friens lives in the next street to us,they can probably walk together,it'sjust the silliness that worries me,and remembering to stay together and be careful on roads, crossing at crossings.Don't know how I'd feel about Bridie making the same journey alone next year without Harry.
My brother and I walked to school ourself at 6 and 7.I know the world was a safer place, and we didn't live in town.Sure it'll be fine
