I know there's nowt the docs can do but I have been suffering with a really nasty head cold for more than a week now and it's showing no signs of going! The worst symptom is a constant pressure headache, it gets better and worse, but I'm finding it hard to get out of bed in the morning because of it, it's better when I'm out in the fresh air but it's peeing with rain here and probably will all week so that doesn't help. What medication is good to help shift it or at least relieve the symptoms, it's really dragging me down and I've got 3 young girls here to entertain and look after during half-term! I just don't feel like getting up off the settee!
I missed Zumba last week cos of this but bugger it I'm going tonight whatever, I'm not letting it spoil my fun anymore! I just can't believe I still feel so rotten.

Have you tried ibuprofen? I find that sometimes works along with paracetamol. Head colds are horrible.

I don't have any medication in the house at the moment (apart from kids) so haven't used anything LB. Thanks, I think I need to pop to the chemist this afternoon and get something, I've never had anything like this before and it's going on sooo long!

In that case definitely dose yourself up and hopefully it will do one! It's probably all the catarrh giving you a headache, get some nose drops or olbas oil and see if they help clear it.

I think I'll be buying everything I can in an attempt to get rid of it, need my energy back this week! Thanks

Paracetamol 4 hourly and ibuprofen 8 hourly should help. Colds can take over 2 weeks to shift unfortunately.

Thanks CP I'll try that, is it worth getting a specific decongestant type medicine? I can put up with a runny nose for 2 weeks but not this!

I swear by Sudafed for congestion and Olbas Oil at night. Night Nurse is great but makes you feel groggy next day.

Thanks MaisieMoo I'll get some Sudafed. Don't fancy feeling groggy so will given the night nurse a miss.

Yup I was going to say Sudafed too. Brilliant stuff.

Right' I'm armed with Sudafed specifically for headaches, can I take anything else with it?

In all honesty paracetamol and ibuprofen are the best and cheapest on the market. Mostly everything else you are paying for the name. You are only going to relieve the symptoms its not going to take the cold away as its a virus that needs to run its course. Plenty fluid, regular paracetamol and ibuprofen, you can inhale steam and gargle salt water.

THanks CP, I've bought Sudafed, Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, (obviously not going to take all at once) I've woken up feeling worse this morning, it's spread into my neck and kept waking me up in the night :-( Poor kids are going to have another day of entertaining themselves, this is just rubbish :-(
