Am I the only one who does not like going on holiday anymore?! Having the little ones makes any type of holiday so stressful that we prefer to spend the money on other things. Am I mean or do we just have difficult children?? I can't sit down without one of them wandering dangerously close to the sea/pool, one of them needing the toilet, one of them wanting a drink/snack/swim/pick up/cuddle/play with me!!! I can't relax with a drink or enjoy meal times as they kick off- people have actually moved tables thanks to our screaming kids We have spent a fortune on holidays in the past two years and have decided not to do it again for a long time (unless my parents come over and have the children while we do a weekend away...)
I cannot wait until they are both old enough to keep themselves amused in the pool or on the beach but until then, holidays are on hold

I would love a holiday that does not involve visiting family!
We are quite lucky though as we do have sunshine for the best part of the year and can pop down to the beach etc so a bit different I think than living in the UK? There are pro's and con's with the summer heat but better than rain and dark skies everyday. Although I am totally loving the rain we have had in the last few days!!

I agree WS we haven't been abroad with ours yet, just done uk holidays. We wanted to go somewhere this year as it's our 10 year wedding anniversary but take the boys but I know it will just be such hard work and not relaxing so I don't think we are going to now. Like you we are just going to do other things, days out and few nights away with the boys

With you on that LC! We are not planning to go back until Summer at the earliest now (4 times last year was excessive and expensive!) I can handle summers here, it's set up for the weather so plenty to do. Weather is bizarre this year, E is furious that her wellies are at my parents oops! I let her splash in her fetching crocs instead Did a shout out to you last weekend to see if I could pick your brains re live in help...
Yoyo- can you do a couple of nights without boys instead? I hate the flights with them too, especially M as he will not sit still. E just asks 'are we there yet' all the way there!!

Sorry WS, missed that. Can I still be of help?

But you're already somewhere that's lovely and warm WS (bit too warm maybe sometimes), whereas most of us want to escape the cold and rain! x
Holiday with one has been fine, I might change my mind when #2 is here!

Agreed that if I lived somewhere with sunshine I'd maybe not be fussed for going on hols! It is hard work with littlies though, def no relaxing (unless you seek out a kids club like us )

Yes please! Will bump the thread LC so we don't take over this one

For me, a holiday would be one without the kids.
It's not a holiday with them, it's doing what I usually do, in another country. Fine if we go to a child friendly place like Butlins, that is for THEM, not for me.

DD/Weekender- we are fortunate to have great weather most of the year so maybe that's why it doesn't bother us as much but still, my kids are a pain
AK- precisely! But I refuse to do Butlins, I hate it.

Totally what DD said you've got the sun you lucky mare! For us it's about escaping to the sun!
I know what you mean though. And last year on holiday with Curly Wurly and co we had double trouble with Louie and Molly egging each other on. We'd sit by the pool and one would ask for a drink, the other would ask for a snack - back and forth to the villa we were

I wouldn't do Butlins either, ha.
But what I meant, is if it is aimed at kids, then that's fine, we are going for them. I couldn't take them on my kind of holidays, they'd be bored to death (I like art galleries, architecture, local history, not sitting by the pool)

Agree with Belle and Deedee, you have already got the sun so don't need to escape the cold weather.
I love holidays with the kids, although last year they were a bit of a pain sometimes. We were at my friends dads appartment and they were the only kids round the pool so ended up getting bored and annoying. This year we are going all inclusive which will be loads better, it has a kids club, entertainment during the day and we are going with friends who have kids around J's age so he'll be happy and E's quite good at making friends.
Ooh can't wait for a bit of sun.

Ha! Glad it's not just me.
We still go away, I just don't class it as a holiday. It's family time. Same sh*t, just in a nicer location. I go self catering in the UK so I cook and even hoover when I'm away. I'll have a proper holiday in a few years time - it'll have been two decades by then, I'll really appreciate it!
