OK, so I work pretty hard- and feel a bit bad about not being home around much for my daughter. She's 13 and recently claimed she wanted these Emu boots. Now they are a lot of money- but she has worked hard at school and I bought them for her.
My mother is being hypercritical saying, I'm spoiling her and she's going to grow up not knowing the value of anything.

Think to yourself is she asking for stuff like this all the time and how much of it does she actually get. if she is and is getting it often then i think its spoiling her slightly. maybe you buy her these things out of guilt for not being there. whereas if she is the opposite and actually works for something like that then she will learn the value of things.. if she keeps askiing for things like this i would get her to do chores or a saturday job so she makes some sort of contribution and then will look after thigs like that better as she has had to work for it.
