Really would appreciate how to deal with this:
I saw Occ Health on the Wed, who submitted a report to the top boss on Thurs, on Friday received an email from someone whom I speak to and am friendly very but am certainly nto close to or share extreme personal details with. The email contained information that was in the report from Occ Health, which I hadn't discussed with anyone. So the private details of my meeting with Occ Health appeared to have been shared with people that I don't feel needed to know that information. How do you suggest I approach this? Obviously it is too late and that information is otu but I don't want a repeat of this and wondered if anyone could advise?

Not a regular but I am a HR bod.
You should be told who the info from a Occ Health report will be going to and who will be spoken to about it (it should only be those who need to know)
What job role is the person in who e-mailed you? To prevent it happening again I would speak with your boss and whoever in HR is your representative and explain that this information has been relayed to you, you would like things as confidential as possible and please could they give you some reassurances about how any future information will be dealt with.
It's worth noting that giving personal information to soemone who doesn't need to be aware can be a breach of data protection and could be considered a serious breach by the Information Commission. The first step would be above but be aware you can take things further if you're not happy with how they deal with it.
Have been a lurker for a little while so am vaguely aware of your situation - just want to say I'm really sorry and if you do need any HR advice about work etc please feel free - I also used to work in the public sector so have an idea of how policies and procedures etc work.

Cheers Grif - don't ever worry about not being a regular - nobody is in the beginning
The person who emailed me actually works outside of the organisation I work but comes in approx once a week, maybe once a fortnight and alwasy makes a point of saying hello to me, he is a very friendly guy BUT there is no way I can see how/why he would ahev needed to know anything. TBH I know exactly how it will have happened. The top boss will haev discussed it with my line manager who will have told people in my department who will then have passed it on to others.

That is really disgraceful to be honest - the fact that they he said something to you would indicate they haven't been asked to keep things confidential! What should have happened is that your line managers should have been briefed but reminded of the sensitive nature of the information and asked not to discuss with anyone who hasn't been told by OH, you or your top boss. Definitely mention it (not sure who you feel most comfortable with top boss or HR). If you would prefer a letter or e-mail drafting I'm happy to put something together.

I am not very good at writing so hints tips etc are most gratefully received.

Actually would you believe it? I've just received another email from that guy referring to thinsg that were discussed at the meeting and a proposed phased return to work.

That really is too far! I'm just going into a meeting but if you don't mind waiting until this aft I'll get back to you with a rough draft.
Soem people really don't have a clue!

How does this sound:
' Dear ___
As you are aware I am currently absent from work and have been participating in confidential discussions with Occupational health. Unfortunately it appears that the content of these discussions has been distributed to not only other people within work but also externally. I'm sure you can appreciate that my health as a very personal matter and I was expecting that my right to confidentiality would be respected by Occupational Health and the Managers who need to be aware of the situation in order to plan work and support me in a return to work.
I would be grateful if you could let me know how this breach happened and what steps will be taken to ensure my personal business remains private and discussed only with those who need to be aware (I would also like to know who those people are).
This is a difficult time for me and I need to know that I can have full and frank conversations without the content discussed at length with my colleagues and beyond, it is distressing to say the least. I would like the steps to be confirmed by yourself to be clarified with HR and also the Information Governance representative as to where I stand if this happens again, of course I will also be seeking my own independent advice.
I look forward to your response ....
This may be a bit mroe formal than you would like but it may give you an idea - also please feel free to say it's a load of rubbish and not what you want at all!

Ah no don't worry - it's a lot to take in and this is only an option - you decide what is best for you and go with that!
