OK, this is a bit random but bear with me...
My mobile contract is with Orange - I've been with them for about 10 years because they have the best signal in our area.
I've recently renewed with them on another 24 month contract. The past few weeks we've had patchy, and then no signal from home. I've just discovered that they've removed the mast and have no intention of replacing it, on the basis that they don't have enough users in the area to warrant having it there.
Now, I'm sure there is probably something in the small print of their contract that says they can't guarantee service etc, but to me this is like SKY selling me a subscription then taking the dish away. I chose my provider on the basis of them having a history of the best service here and am now stuck for two years with a phone that is pretty much useless to me. Loads of other people are in the same situation.
Is there anything we can do in this situation? I want to be armed with info before I contact Orange.

Not legal whatsoever (just nosey!), but it might be worth checking out moneysavingexpert - I'd have thought there'd be someone with experience of this on their forums. I'm sure I've read somewhere about people having mobiles that end up with rubbish coverage and managing to get out of their contacts, not on there but elsewhere as I looked since I had such crap network coverage from them when I was with them but never did anything about it in the end.
I take it there's little T-mobile coverage in your area too since they now share networks?

If they have removed the service in your area then it's breach of contract I would have thought?
There is a lot of work going on with 4G masts at the moment which is causing interference on all networks in some areas. Are you in one of them?

Deedee that's a great idea, will have a look at MSE.
We live in the middle of nowhere, the only mast for miles around was the orange one, so pretty much everyone I know is on orange because it has had the best service. Having said that, my parents are with O2 and they seem to do OK, so I'd switch to them if I can get out of the orange contract.
Sshh my BiL works for a local company who rely on mobile and are with orange, they rang to find out what is going on and were told that the mast has been taken down as there aren't enough users in the area to warrant the cost of keeping the mast up. They said they currently have no plans to replace the mast, so presumably not related to 4G.
It feels a bit like being sold something under false pretences, and being tied into a 24 month contract for a service we can't receive seems a bit harsh. Will do some more investigating.
