We went in August and stayed here - booked through Hotwire and paid about £70 a night. It's not the most central but was only 5-10 minutes walk from 3 different metro stations, and about 10 minutes stroll from the Eiffel Tower. We found it really easy to get to everywhere we wanted to from there.

Depends on the kind of trip you want I guess. We went a couple of times and stayed in the Madeleine district, which is nice and central easy to walk to lots of places. Not much in the way of night life (although nice restaurants and easy to get around) which suits us. Can't remember the name of the hotels which doesn't help you much.

Thank you both, would just be me and h for a bit sightseeing and out for dinner etc. We wouldn't be looking for loads of night life.

How are you getting there? We went by eurostar so I started off deciding where to stay by looking at how to get to different areas from gare du nord.

We stayed near the trocedero with an amazing Eiffel Tower view! We spent a day at the louvre, an afternoon looking at napoleons tombs (think that was at trocedero may be wrong), Eiffel Tower, boat trip down seine, notre dame. There's plenty of nice places to eat. Friends of ours went for a day at Disney but that's quite away outside the city and also monets gardens but again quite abit outside the city. Have a wonderful time and wrap up warm! We went for new year 6 years ago and it was freezing!

We stayed in near Sacre Coeur which is a but near the red light district and the Moulin Rouge but we liked it because the bits around there are really lovely during the day. It's easy to get about in Paris with the metro so wherever you stay should be ok. We did the Eurostar and got a deal through teletext I think which worked out ally cheap. I can't remember the hotel name though. It wasn't great but just a base.

Hey D! I found Paris a bit like London/New York in terms of how small a room you get for a lot of money! It's been years since I've been so can't remember where we stayed (helpful) but I also remember how easy it was to get about. We went 'up' far too many thing and the view is essentially the same from Notre Dame, Effiel Tower, Arc de T! I would pick one next time!!! It's such a fabulous city! My fav thing was to sit in coffee shops enjoying the view and the vibe!

We went in May for my birthday.
We stayed at the Ascott Arc de Triomphe hotel, which is on Ave. Kleber. It was a fab hotel and perfect location wise. We were minutes walk from the Trocadero, which is where we got the metro in to. We were also just 10 minutes walk from the Arc de Triomphe and all the shopping areas.
I love Paris. It was such fabulous weather when we went too that we literally spent the day walking around, taking in the sights, stopping for coffee every now and then.
We did the evening dinner cruise, which was fabulous too.

This is basically what we did too. We went up Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Montparnasse Tower - I highly recommend Montparnasse Tower, especially if you collect Tesco Clubcard points as we exchanged those for entry and it cost us £3.50 each! Bargain!
