I live near Aberystwyth, well closer to Aberaeron. I've been married for 2 years to my DH and expecting our first in febuary. I keep breeding rabbits, chickens, and quails plus spend a lot of time with my mum's two kune kune pigs (breeding/pet). Anyone live near me who has animals as well as kids or to be?
Hi, i'm not from near you but i live in Wrexham, used to live in colwyn bay!!
My oh loves pigs and keeps pestering me to let him have one! lol
I'm due baby no 6 and my partner also has 3 girls from his previous marriage! We have started breeding olde english bulldogges, like the english bulldog but as it was originally. xxx
well if you need at least 5m x 7m for a little Kune Kune pig and even bigger for a larger breed, also need the paperwork that goes with it, not too much just a Defra holding number (its free, get it from your parish/ council/rural affairs) and then once you get your pig/sheep/goat/cow you apply for a herd number, you have to do this even if your only going to keep one.
Pigs are great fun though, if you not going to give it lots of attention best to have two of them, some people say you must have two. They are very intelligent. My mum's will sit and give you a paw, and will eat a apple like a human if you hold it for him. Kune Kune arent escape artists, or if they do escape they'd only be just outside the pen. Some of the other breeds of larger pig can be.
My mum had 6 kids, i'm the youngest at 23 and the oldest will be 50 this year. The OH wants 5 kids. Are yours close together or quite far apart? My sister up from me is 11 years older (they are techincally half, but they are like full brothers and sisters, i was the accident of of the "new" marriage).
How clean are Kunes to keep in the garden in a pen and do they get on with dogs?
Our kids are half and step etc!! My daughter was 3 when i met my partner, she is now 10 and his girls are 10, 9 and 6. We have had 4 boys together ages 5, 3, 23 months and 5 months!! So really hoping for a girl with this one as we've only had boys together and this one is the last one. I'm 8 wks today and just got my dating scan app in the post so can't wait for that.
How are you feeling with your pregnancy, do you know what you're having? My 3 year old will be 4 in feb on valentines day! lol xx
Well they do have a spot where they go toilet, though as youngesters/weaners they may do it anywhere. If your keeping as pets get castrate boys or girls, as fully entrie boys (boars) get a bit smelly. My mum cleans hers out everday with a sandpit bucket and spade and puts it in the compost bin.
If they are raised with dogs then yes they will be, we have a pet dog and she isnt so friendly with the pigs (she is getting old and grumpy), but the pigs want to be friendly with her. If you buy a 7-8 week old weaner ask the breeder if they have a dog that way you know they have been socialsed with them. Also a good tip is that some people sell Kune Kune purely as pets and ask ??250 upwards for them, others sell them as meat weaners from ??35 these could be breeders breeding for quality animals, but not all animals fit the bill so sell off the rest as meat weaners (so you fatten them up and eat them), but they will be just as good as the pet breeders, perhaps better as pedigree breeders also want good tempered animals. If you go to these people ask for girls or gilts as they are known.
Ours will probably have a litter next year, we will sell them as meat weaners i.e. not suitable for breeding from, of course thats up to the buyer to decided, but ours arent pedigree.
I've had a very easy pregnancy so far, which is good as i work away from home looking after other people's livestock and pets whilst they go on holiday/away from their home.
No dont know what i'm having got 20 wk scan on monday at 9am, though we wont be asking, but i might try and take a peek.
Hope your appointment goes well.
