My GP has prescribed this for me for heavy periods. Never taken them before but am due any day. I was reading the leaflet that comes with them and apparently the side effects can include anything from tiredness and generally feeling unwell to multiple organ failure. Covers all bases I guess, but I'm not sure I want to take them now!
If you've had them did you suffer any ill effects and did they actually work?

Ok I am going to be honest, but you must remember that everyone reacts differently ......
I used Meffanamic Acid for 2 years as my periods were so heavy I would soak through clothes and they would last weeks (the longest for 16 weeks!) it worked fantastically and also helped ease the pain which was wonderful. Then in 2011 I suffered with a blood clot on my lung (PE) which was attributed to use of meffanamic acid and the pill and I now cannot take any hormonal treatement at all. I was unfortunatly one of those people it did react to!
It does help and if you need it then try it x

Blardy hell CW! I vaguely remember that happening to you now, hope all is better since then? I don't take anything else so it'd be just this, but I hate taking any sort of pills.
I am really suffering with my periods in a similar way to you, it's awful. I have a scan this week to rule out any further nasties too

I have been ok since, they have tested me for everything under the sun and there is no underlying root cause so they have attritbuted it to the tablets. Its a shame as they really did help. my periods are now completely screawed but I am learning to live with it adn considering an ablation when/if I decide I am done with having babies. I have PCOS which is why caused a lot of the problem

I used them last month as I had a 2 weeks period that was ridiculously heavy. It made no difference to the flow but eased the pain. A friend of mine uses them regularly and swears by them. I'll stick to Nurofen in future...
Wow CW, scary!

I was prescribed it years ago to alleviate severe period pain. For me, it actually made it worse so they were binned quite quickly! I don't recall any side effects but then, like I say, I didn't take it for very long.
