I have had a cold for a week now, and it was JUST starting to get better, when my ear became blocked. It feels muffled, like I have cotton wool stuffed in there.
Is there anything I can do, or is it just a waiting game???

I don't think there is much. You can get drops which will soften hardened wax but if its the cold - and colds often go to my ears so I know how you feel - you just have to wait it out and say "what?" a lot!

Ha, sadly, it didn't block out the sound of my H's snoring.
It's just the 1 ear, and is SO annoying.

Blow your nose, don't be too forceful you can damage your ear if you force it, but a blow might help.

Tried that (constant nose blowing, as I have the remnants of my cold), but it does nothing.
So fed up with it.

There isn't unfortunately other than warm drinks. Nixxy would be adamant about don't blow your nose as that can really damage your ear drum so be careful

I have googled (I know, I know), and it says it's a waiting game, and can last a week - BOOOOOO

I had A at the Drs today with something similar. She has basically been deaf with it since last Wednesday. Hers too stems from a cold that just seems to be lingering. The Dr reckons it is a build up of lucid in the middle ear. He suggested the holding your nose and gently blowing like ML says. He did say you can use things like sudafed but advised against it for A as she is only 6.

You could try otrivine nasal spray. I had a blocked ear after an ear infection and was due to get on a plane (so potential risk of perforated ear drum). Was advised this to try and help clear lower tubes in the nose which are linked to the tubes in your ears. Might be worth a try?

I'd just wait it out, as annoying as it is. You don't know its full of wax, its likely just the tubes that drain the wax are slightly inflamed. Those ear sprays have peroxide in them and are very harsh on the ear canal. If it is blocked wax then olive oil drops will soften it. If the ear is slightly red with no wax build up ear calm will help but tbh Id just wait it out

I know it isn't wax, I just assumed it was ETD, but wasn't sure if there was anything I could do to "help" it disappear.

Try holding a hot flannel against the side of your head, it might soften it and will bring some relief to the aches you get with a blocked ear.
Its horrible I know :(

Thankfully, it seems better today. I tried a mixture of all things that were suggested, and kept myself dosed up on my cold and flu tabs.
