I couldn't find a CD player a couple of weeks ago when I was looking for one. Do people not buy them anymore or was it the wrong time of year to be looking for them?

Everyone I know has downloaded theirs and listens via iPod/similar.
My hubby had enormous collections of books, films and CDs when we met. CDs is the only one he's been prepared to go digital on. Got about £300 on music magpie and they're all on his laptop and his iPod now.

They are making computers without CD drives now. They will be defunct one day, but as far as I know you can still buy CD players...this one's even got a cassette in it!!

At work it is a PITA as a lot of our documents are on CD and arrive via CD but two of the computers don't have CD drives.

We don't own any CDs or a CD player.
We have no DVDs or DVD player either.
But I do love proper books, and refuse to give into a kindle

I Haven't bought a new CD for years. I have kept my old ones, purely because I have a Hello kitty CD player, I don't want to part with. I do mainly use my ipod/iphone though (on my HK ipod dock, haha)
Same for DVD's. We download, or use Netflix.

I've kept ours too but copied what's on them as a form of backup, everything else I've downloaded. You can get separate CD drives now that plug in via USB, but any optical media will become obsolete in the future.

I don't feel CDs are obsolete, my H has a large CD collection and I love having something tangable. He is a nightmare for getting them scratched when he has them in the car. Also I like how you own a CD and can leave it to someone when you die whereas the same can't be sad of itune downloads. I think my hubby has started to get the back catalogue of King Maker. We also bought a vinyl record for our best man's last birthday.

I didn't think CDs were going to be obsolete any time soon. I don't own an ipod so definitely rely on my CDs!
