I'm new to this so was looking for advice. Belle do you ever feel like MDs very own fashion and beauty guru?
After all the threads recently I decided to make a bit more effort. Bought some St Moritz and a mitt today. Showered, shaved, exfoliated and moisturised and have given it a go on my legs. It seems to have gone on ok (fingers crossed) tomorrow when I wash it do I rub or buff it? Just shower lightly? Should I moisturise afterwards? My knees look a little dark despite slathering on the moisturiser - can I reduce this? If not do I just put more moisturiser on in future? how is best to exfoliate (before tanning and in general)? I have a brush and one of those puff sponges, is a scrub alongside one of those best? And finally any tips for when I move on to the rest of my body?
Thank you very much!

I'm not as much of an expert as Belle but regarding your knees - do you moisturise your body regularly? I think that's the keys so your knead (and elbows) aren't the dry areas they traditionally are.
If they are a but dark tomorrow I find rubbing gently with a damp flannel help, but be aware they will be a bit pink after that - so don't do it before baring them!
I like the St Moritz but be prepared to try other brands. I find it wears off really well.
Hope the result is good tomorrow, let us know!

Yay a convert! Well done for giving it a go.
I use a mild shower gel, usually L's simple stuff, to rinse off the excess in the morning. You're not meant to but I don't like the smell on me. And as Beez says a damp flannel or towel should help with the knees. A tip for knees hands and feet is to leave them til last and just run the mitt over them once - no rubbing, just a glide over. Having said that I've been tanning for years and still end up with dodgy wrists and knuckles. And Beez here doesn't even use a mitt or gloves to apply!!
As for exfoliatng I use a scrub and gloves. I'm religious about moisturising everyday - I use Boots Mango Body Butter - and another good barrier cream is vaseline.
How's it looking today?

Thanks Beez I don't moisturise regularly so I suppose that's where the problem with my dry knees arrises! I will have to start moisturising regularly. I'm not baring my legs until next tuesday so I'm just practicing - hopefully it will have faded by then. What other brands do you find good? I only picked up the St mortitz as is was so cheap. I've not jumped in the shower yet but it looks fairly even so I'm quite pleased.

Sorry Belle x-posted. I've seen those exfoliating mitts so might pick up some, I need to adopt a better routine with my skin. Thanks for the tips, I'll bare them in mind when I'm brave enough to try the rest of my body haha.

how do you use the mitt to put it on? round and round motion, or sweeping ? I've never used one but want to get into tanning a bit more. Which St Moritz one have you been using? I tried the spray last yr but found it tricky. It went on things other than me! Does it come in mousse form?

I just bought the medium mousse and the St Moritz mitt. I squirted it on the mitt and then rubbed in circular motions. It seems to have gone on well and I'm a complete novice.

ML the St Moritz mousse is the one I use. I like the Sublime spray from L'Oreal for my face though.
I find you need a moisturiser that isn't greasy. I used Nivea once and it made my tan streak badly. Find one that soaks into your skin really well but doesn't leave a residue.

I sweep rather than circle with the mitt. Long strokes from the ankle to knee, up the back of the leg etc. But to be honest if you use a cream your better off applying with gloves then buffing with the mitt.
I prefer mousse products to creams as it dries quicker.

Good luck ML I've done the rest of myself tonight so I'm hoping I don't wake as an oopa lumpa!
