Has anyone broken their nose or know anyone who has?? I'm 99% sure i've broken mine in a fairly nasty fall from my horse yesterday. My hat slipped forward over my eyes as my head hit the ground and whacked me squarely across the bridge on my nose. I was probably about 10ft up at the height of my tumble and sent with some force so it was a fair impact.
Anyway i have a lovely bruise forming across my nose and dark shadows building under my eyes but i don't look as bad as i feared. I did ice A LOT last night!! My nose is also swollen and wider than usual. At the moment i feel very congested and bunged up and i'm wondering how long this feeling should take to clear as it's not very nice. Also the front of jaw, in particular my front teeth ache horribly. I'm guessing this is from the impact just going down my face?
How long do noses take to feel and look better? I've still got a cracking headache and generally it doesn't feel nice at all. Is it worth still icing at this stage do you think??

I think you might want to get an xray just incase more than just your nose is broken! I have broken my nose 5 times and it points to one side as the last time i did it I was drunk and took an elbow to the face and laughed it off - luckily I have no bumps

My husband broke his nose years ago and never had it sorted- took weeks for him to stop complaining that it hurt! It's now a funny shape too Please get it looked at just to be sure. Sounds like a nasty fall AR, hope you're ok xx

I reeeeeaaaaaaallllllllyyyyyy don't want to go to A&E though. Because the whack was front straight above it's not bent at all so doesn't need straightening at least.

You won't get an X-ray of your nose. If you are tender under your eyes on the eye socket or on your cheek or jaw then that will be xr but noses aren't unless there's gross deformity.
Can you breathe through both nostrils?
I'd either go to A&E tonight or the gp/walk in centre tomorrow just so they can check there isn't a clot up your nose, in the mean time I'd take pain killers and DO NOT blow your nose. The gp/A&E will refer you to ent clinic in 10 days when the swelling goes down, they won't do anything before then.
I'm also annoyed as I can't remember if the current advice is to apply ice or not

Thanks CP. My cheek bones ache and are tender to touch and so does the top of my jaw where my front teeth are. have been taking Ibuprofen. I can breath through them both but it feels a bit congested, like i have a cold. I really don't want to go to A&E and i have work tomorrow, can i just see if it gets better or is that not a good idea?!

I'd imagine the congestion is swelling inside but it is good you can breathe through each one. Sounds like you clonked it good and proper so it will look a fright for a while as the bruise comes out. Hope the ibuprofen helps xx
It must be the day for it: when I was out in town I saw a little girl, about 4 I reckon, fall flat on her nose. Poor love screamed with lots of blood. She was whisked off to the shop control room but the thud as she hit the floor makes me pretty sure she will have broken it. I broke mine at a similar age so sure she'll be ok.
CP-out of interest what is the advice for when the nose is bleeding heavily. The security guy told the mum to keep the child's head back, with the blood dripping down her thrat, but I thought it was better now to lean forward so the blood goes on the floor...or is this just for nosebleeds and it's different if it's potentially broken?

How are you doing today? Massive bruise? Did you get to see a doctor about it? Hope you're in less pain xx
