just a bit of a concern with my J this morning (10mths) he has had severe diahorrea for 4 days now. It started with him being sick 3 times so I guess it is the norovirus bug which we've all had but the worry is he's not really keeping anything inside. I milk starved him for almost two days and just tried him with a bit of dry toast but he wasn't really interested. He's lost quite a bit of weight that lots of people have noticed and he's hardly drinking any water to stop dehydration. At re beginning if the week he had a really high temperature but that's calmed down alot now.
Do you think a doctors trip is necessary?
thanks ladies x
This is the 5th day and he's had a major accident everywhere in his cot.. Sorry tmi x

Have you been to the doctor already or do you mean take him a second time? I would take him, they might say it's a bug but they might also want to take a poo sample. Poor boy, hope he gets better soon x

No he hasn't been yet as I assumed it would jut pass which it probably will, I'm just a bit concerned about the loss of weight and if he gets dehydrated x

They usually do pass but I'm a worrier and hate to see children sick and not know why so I would take him, especially as he's not taking any water and has visibly lost weight... And it's friday. Can you get seen today as an emergency?
19/04/2013 at 08:05
Considering the amount of time he's been poorly, and the fact he's not drinking much, I think you should take him to be seen today xx

Yeah I could get an emergency appt today. I think I will. I didn't want to waste their time but he has visibly shrunk in 5 days and hasn't drunk enough to compensate what he's lost.
Thanks both xx

I would as he might be dehydrated. Are you giving him milk now?
19/04/2013 at 08:12
Defninitely reason enough to get him checked and not be wasting their time. Hope he bounces back asap x

Ds, I've tried him with milk and he will drink that but it's going straight through pretty much so I didn't know whether to keep him off it again but I'm worried he'll starve!

I would take him to see the Doctor since its been nearly a week now. Poor little man.
I remember when J was 7m and he was poorly over his first Christmas, I took him to the doctors on Christmas Eve and they said it was viral and nothing they could do, I then took him to A&E on the 27th on the advice of NHS Direct. He had Gastorentoritis (sp) and bronchiolitis (sp) and he hadn't eaten or drank much since the 23rd and had lost loads of weight, they sent me away again saying it was viral and gave me a syringe to give him water through.
It still didn't pass,he was still being sick randomly and had the runs constantly. I took him to the HV on 3rd Jan, he weighed him and he had lost a huge amount of weight so made sure I got a dr's appt there and then and was eventually given AB's and within 2 doses he was fine but it took him ages to put some weight back on.
It's awful seeing them so poorly.

He's going at 9:45 I bet they say there is nothing they can do. His ears are playing up too. Feel sorry for him.
It's horrible SW, the weight loss is what worries me, don't get me worn he could afford to lose a little but now he's lost a little he can't afford to lose anymore iyswim? He's not chubby no more..

If you can to save time hon get a stool sample and take it along with you. Sterilise a tupperware pot or take a nappy along or something. We had to do this with L when he had a nasty bug.
Definitely call or see the doctor and keep topping him up with water even if it is just going right through him.
Poor little mite x

I've saved a nappy! *Heave!*
I thought they may ask, I'm dreading getting a sample out of it!
He's refusing the water belle but I'm syringing some and he's takin it that way x

What about ice lollies / ice pops. Try giving those if you have any.

Oh poor J! let us know how the doctors goes

Been doctors, she doesn't think he's 'ill' enough to be admitted for iv fluids as his mouth is moist. I took in a stool sample and she wants him to have done bloods done, so I'm sitting up dv now :'-( my poor baby!! She told me to double the water in the milk that he has. He also has a sore throat but his ears are finally clear! X
Belle good thinking I do have ice pops
