We are doing hazelnut butter scallops (I think)
A nice homemade soup with crusty warm roll and real butter
Goats cheese and onion tart with salad

When we have starters the men usually have Heinz tomato soup & the girls have prawn or seafood cocktail. Smoked salmon, and pate have been other years but now we don't do starter and just save room for main course & pudding!

I made soup, prawns or egg mayo (retro) for last year. This year, I am not sure, we are at my mums.

I had thought of doing edds benedict but I've never made hollondaise sauce before so maybe Christmas day wont be the best day to experiment!!

how about pate, or when we used to go to my brothers he used to make either prawn cocktail, homemade mushroom soup and one year he did cream cheese rolled in smoked salmon with salad that was nice and easy to prepare.

You can't beat a nice homemade soup with fresh baked crusty rolls if you ask me!!!

None here. Christmas dinner is all about the main course and we leave all the room for that!

Stilton soup, smoked salmon pate with prawns, smoked salmon with melon. I think whatever starter you have it needs to be light as there is so much food at christmas.

Last year we had some fancy scallops in their shells with a sauce on from M&S, they were lovely! My mum makes a wicked smoked salmon mousse, we've had that some years as well. I like a seafood starter before a meat meal and a vege starter before a fish meal, but that might just be me.
