Unbelievable that a child can be taken away from it's parents because they don't look like them. I'm surprised the family haven't kicked up more of a stink.
It's frightening though isn't it.

This is a family in Dublin not the child found in Greece - have I linked to the wrong thing?

I think it's mental. That cannot have been the only reason they took the child surely? It makes me feel a bit ill, it's like state approved kidnap.

It doesn't sit right with me either SShh but when you look at the Greek story you think differently.

So bad! It's all part of the McCann hysteria :(

Apparently Irish authorities took two children away from roma families purely because they had blonde hair and blue eyes. Thankfully DNA has proved in both cases they are their genuine parents but it's ridiculous that they have the power to do this based on one story. I know the Greek story is awful but anyone in the community now with a pale skinned child is going to be worrying that their child is next to be taken from them!

If this is the basis for removing children from families then my sister should have been removed from my family!!! It's insane. I am really glad it has been proved that she is their family. Maybe it will stop any more knee jerk reactions.

Was listening to some of the details of this on Radio 2 at lunchtime and there were a few things that didin't add up at the time the police removed the child. Apparently the maternity ward couldn't find any record of the child being born on the date/time given by the parents, the birth certificate had a different name on it than what the parents were using, the photograph in the childs passport was quite different (although apparently it was a baby photo) and a consultant advised them (the police) that it was unlikley that two Roma parents would have a blonde haired blue eyed child.
I'm still not sure the child should have been removed from their parents, but I can see why they might have had doubts based on the details at hand at the time.

I meant to post when the story broke about the child in Dublin being taken that I was disgusted but forgot by the time I got home. They took the child because a member of the public thought it was odd that a blond blue eyed child lived with a Roma family and for that they took the child away.
Feck me it is like the old stories of gypsey stealign children - really WTVF? I was so angry at the time I nearly had to stop my car. My children are blond, are they going to take them away from me? Ach no she lives in a house so we'll trust her. Going to stop before I go mental ARRRRRGGGGGGG>

Anyone seen the news this morning about the real parents of that girl found in Greece? Turns out the greek family were telling the truth and her real mother is a Bulgarian gypsy who already has 10 children and the albino gene. There was photographs of her other children and they look pretty much identical to the greek child who was taken into care. They are awaiting the DNA test to confirm she's the genuine mother but it looks pretty likely from the photos of the other kids!
