I've tried a few times when I was a teenager but didn't like it one bit, made me all lightheaded and feeling sick.

I gave up in 2002. Had my last cigarette in Cancun airport. Started smoking at 13 so 8 years I smoked.
13/06/2013 at 13:29
No I never like the idea of it. Was offered my first cigarette at about 11 years old by a girl who was a couple of years older and was trusted to take me and her sister round to Guides. On the way there though we loitered behind a garage while the older girl had a cigarette! So I could have been a very young smoker if I'd wanted to.
Our neighbours when I was growing up used to smoke and their whole house reeked of it. It really did discourage me.
I'm pleased I didn't as I'm not sure I'd have enough will power to give it up again.
Belle, you've done really well to give it up like that. What was the prompt at the airport?

I smoked on and off for about 5 years from age 15-20. Had a handful of fags since when drunk 'socially'. I'm so glad I don't smoke, the cost and the way it makes you and your clothes smell is enough to put me off. I'm also glad they've banned smoking in pubs etc, used to hate coming home stinking of *** smoke when it wasn't even me smoking!
No disgusting habit.

I'd been with H for about 9months and he's a non smoker. I'd cut back loads because I never smoked in front of the girls when we had them at weekends back then, he wouldn't let me smoke in the car or his house etc, so by the time we took our first holiday I was only really having a couple a day. Decided to save my money and not buy anymore, just so happened that packet ran out in Mexico.

No have never even tried it. Mum and dad smoked and i hated it. Even hated the smell of them in the packet. My dad died of cancer when i was 18 and mum now has COPD (lung disease) and thats enough to never ever be tempted.

Nope never have and never will.
13/06/2013 at 14:14
No. I can't tolerate being around smokers.
My H was a smoker when we met, I made it clear I found it disgusting, and wouldn't go out with him, if he continued to smoke.
My Dad quit when I was 6, as I told him he smelled bad, and that I didn't want to go to his house anymore. He now goes on at my Mum about her smoking.
I thought I was bad at telling people off for smoking, but ex smokers are worse for that.
13/06/2013 at 14:22
Nope, i had a couple on a night out with friends when i was younger, but it was horrible and i used to choke on every drag.
13/06/2013 at 14:26
nope. never tried one.
13/06/2013 at 14:27
Nope, haven't even had a drag. I absolutely detest smoking, literally can't express how much I hate it! Mum smokes and I always used to chuck her cigarettes away as a child. Nothing annoys me more than people who smoke in the car/ house/ face with kids. Fine to poison yourself but not others. Also people who can't afford proper food etc but can find £7+ a day for fags.
Can you tell I feel strongly about this?! Lol
13/06/2013 at 14:29
Yes I did 'socially' still have the occasional if I'm drunk enough!
I don't know why I do it, it's just another-I'm freee type thing on a night out with the girls
I wouldn't ever smoke in the company of my children however and if they are with me I would never have even one
13/06/2013 at 14:51
Nope. I remember back when people used to be able to smoke upstairs on buses - sitting upstairs would make me feel ill and give me an instant headache.
13/06/2013 at 14:53
WH I feel strongly about it too, it fills me with rage every time I breathe in someone else's smoke which is a lot. 99.9% of people here smoke*not an actual fact but pretty close* and I'm surrounded by it just walking down the road, bus stops, outside cafes on a nice summer's day - ruined by smokers! Even in parks around children, it really is despicable.
13/06/2013 at 15:28
I go through stages of smoking and stages of not. I am in a smoking stage at the moment.
13/06/2013 at 15:37
Figaro I always used to smoke on the buses after school, I'd then blame the other kids for me smelling of smoke when i got in despite the can of Charlie Red I'd spary myself with!
13/06/2013 at 15:40
No its disgusting, ridiculously expensive and without beating round the bush it will end up killing you.
My mil has just died from cancer at fifty f***ing eight! How absurd! She worked al her life really hard and always said she would enjoy her retirement but she didnt even get there.
What angers h is that for years she said she couldn't stop it would be too hard and the day she was diagnosed she stopped there and then! What was the blooming point if stopping when given 8 weeks to live
[steps off soap box]

I know a woman than can't even change a bed cos she gets too out of breath from pleurisy, I asked her why and she said it was the only joy she had in life! She can't walk, can hardly breathe, surely you could find something else. She is a nurse as well with 2 lovely daughters and 3 lovely granddaughters. Madness
