We're having a babysitter for the first time tomorrow night who is not a friend or family member - she is lovely and is a nanny for 2 children in the village that I know, so I know she will be great, and the kids are really excited, but I have no idea of the etiquette.
Do we tip her? And if so, what percentage?
She's coming straight from her Saturday work to our house - do I offer to get her dinner?
Shall I leave snacks and drinks as well?
Anything else I need to ask or be aware of?She's coming round this afternoon after school to meet the kids properly so I can sort things like this out then, but just wanted a heads up.

Whenever I babysit (not for friends or family but was regular) I take my own food but she left me food/drinks to take what I wanted when I wanted. I never did apart from the odd cuppa.
I just used to get my fee rounded up - so £24 would be £25, £37 would be £40 etc.

Ah ok, I think she's charging £5/hour, so to round it up would probably be the next fiver? I think we'll be about 4 hours, so if I gave her £25 that would be ok wouldn't it?

When I babysat it was generally just rounded up (as obvs I wouldn't have had change!) so it would tend to be £20 or £25 but I didn't expect that. It was just nice when it worked out like that. I had always eaten but was generally told to help myself to drinks and biscuits or to make a sandwich etc. but usually I'd just have a brew and would've packed my own snacks. It's a nice gesture to make someone feel comfortable though I think.

Thank you Estrellita. I will get some nice snack things in for her, and will ask her about dinner tonight. I guess I should offer it.

when i was a nanny/nursery nruse i used to do alot of babysitting
Do we tip her? tips arnt really necessary if you are paying by the hour, just round it up
She's coming straight from her Saturday work to our house - do I offer to get her dinner? i would normally be left whatever the children or having-or at my favourite house they would leave an extra 20 for me and the kids to get pizza
Shall I leave snacks and drinks as well? definatley leave drinks, but normally i was told help yourself to anything in the kitchen, if you would rather they dont go through your cupboard maybe leave out a few snack on the work top
