Ben was about 4 or 5 which is v young but I was completely on my own with the children then and it gave me a litlle respite but was only used for videos. J was a good few years older and I had no pland for L to have one anytime soon. However Ben has just bought himself a fab new tv( best in the bl00dy house!) so his is spare. Do I put it in L's room but only for dvds and restricted viewing or do I put it in the loft till shes older, shes' 6 , 7 in July.

I will be watching this thread with interest. I am really against TV's in bedrooms full stop. I don't let H watch TV in bed ever...I find it annoying when I'm trying to get to sleep and its on in the background. I have to listen to PIL's TV all night every night and it gets on my wick. So I am even less keen for the kids to have one. Having said that, I really can see the advantages of it, esepcially if/when they start to get in to computer games etc...I don't want those stuck on my TV all the time. I guess as long as you strike the right balance of when it is and isn't on then any age is ok.

My friend had a tv in her lo's room since she was 3/4, she uses it mainly to watch DVDs. Similarly other friends have from that age too. Our mil tv was going spare but we decided against it. L is a bit of a telly addict and we want her bedroom to be used for sleeping or playing and our lounge is for watching tv. Plus we don't have any aerial point in the kids rooms either!

I'm also dead against tellies in bedrooms. I can totally understand why people have them, I just think bedrooms are for sleeping (and the other) not watching telly.

There is a tv in the kids room that they share (6.5 and 3.5) simply because it's a spare. It isn't plugged into the aerial socket though and they only use it for DVD's

My boys (8&4) have had a TV for about 18 months. It's not connected to an aerial so they only watch DVD's on it and they usually only watch on Friday and Saturdays before bed.

I've told my eldest he can have one when he's 18! I'm so mean!
Mine don't really need one in their bedrooms as we have a playroom and a lounge so they can watch their own tv anytime. I suppose it may change once they get to teenage years and spend all their time sulking in the bedroom!

We have one in S's room, he's 1. But it's only because it's a spare and i don't want to put it in the loft in case the cold gets in it and breaks it. TBH, he never watches it. H and I use it for the radio channels when we are either cleaning upstairs or if we are bathing the children.

E got one in her bedroom when she was 4yrs, it didn't get plugged into the arial until a couple of years ago when she got a new telly with freeview (she's 9yrs).
J got one for Christmas for his bedroom, he's 3.5yrs, that isn't plugged into an arial so he just uses it to watch a dvd in bed.
I had a telly in my bedroom from being around 7yrs and even now love watching telly in bed. My neice and nephew who are 4 and 5 have one in each of their bedrooms and my friends boy who is 4 has a tv in his bedroom.

I am against TVs in bedrooms. We don't have one in ours. However I think if it's just for dvds it's fine, and am a bit hypocritical really as I probably wouldn't mind a computer in a bedroom and nowadays you can pretty much use a computer as a TV.
We'll have to see as A gets older, but I think we will probably restrict him to the family computers and TV until he is in secondary school. Not sure how as H and I have a laptop each and no desktop, but he rarely uses his so maybe when it conks out we'll replace with a desktop.
I don't see any issue with putting it in L's room now, saves missioning into the loft when you do decide to use it.

I'm really against tvs in bedrooms. It's taken H four years to persuade me that we can have one I'm surprising him for his 22nd birthday, so erm, E has no chance!

I'm so against tvs in the bedroom that I binned the spare we had when me and H moved in together. However more and more he's using the ipad to watch films in bed hence me relenting.

i dont have a child yet so this might change but i think for dvds i think its a good idea but i wouldn't have it as a TV until 10 ish.
