The doctor is recommending I get the coil. Anyone got any experience?
I can't take the pill anymore so that's out. I'm interested in the implant too, probably more preferable due to it's insertion method

I had the coil for 2 years before removing it to try for a baby. I had the 5 year non hormonal one. At the beginning, after years of being on the pill, I found my periods very heavy and slightly painful. However this passed after a few months. It was nice not to have to worry about popping a pill each morning and getting repeat prescriptions etc. I think that I will have the coil re-fitted after the baby arrives. What I didn't like about the implant was the thought of not having a period each month. As annoying as they are, at least I know where I stand iykwim?!

Curly Wurly posted about this yesterday and I replied on there - I'll try and find the thread to save my poor brain trying to remember what I'd written. The main reason I went for the coil over the implant after having C is that the hormone is more localised so any of the side effects are less - this was important for me since I was suffering badly from PND.

Here you go

Don't you put on loads of weight with the implant?

I haven't put weight on with the implant.

I thought it was a side effect.
It's the same as the Mirena coil Belle, it can increase your appetite but it isn't always the case.

I have the implant, had it put in 6 weeks ago and am about to have it taken out as he side effects have been awful for me

It's the injection that makes you put on weight Belle, it's not listed as a side effect of the implant.
I've got the implant, only had it couple of months & so far the only side effect is light bleeding on and off. I'm hoping it settles down soon, it should do by 3 months apparently. They tried to push the coil on me to but it's not for me.

Thanks everyone, sorry I disappeared, I lost my wifi.
Going to read all the replies and thank you Deedee for finding the other thread x

Oh sorry I must be confused then. Is the injection called Implenon or something?
21/05/2013 at 16:43
Implanon. Actually I have put on a few lb in the last few weeks but that's because of the complete shite I've been eating, can't blame it on anything else!

Implant Implanon.....I'll leave now

Hate to say this mossy, but weight gain is one of the common side effects of the implant (I read elsewhere it's because the hormone increases your appetite - same hormone as Mirena as I've said previously) so possibly is the cause for your weight gain.

Really Deedee? I'll have to look into it again then because the leaflet my doctor gave me listing all the different contraceptive options definitely stated that the injection can cause weight gain in some but not the coil or the implant. It'll have to come out if it's the cause as I'm not putting up with that :-( Thanks for the tip off. Sorry Belle you were right!

I have the non hormonal coil, its great not having to remember to take anything like the pill each day. I had heavy periods for about 7 months but they then settled down. No problems here with the non hormonal coil from me and I would recommend it

I have the copper coil (no hormones)
My periods were heavy and crampy for about 4 months but are fine now.

I'm about to get my 2nd implant in. Had no real problems I put weight gain down to it but if I had a bit mote willpower I'd be ok. Also prefer insertion method.
