I've got a black dress which I bought for my Grandma's funeral a few months ago and I'm trying to dress it up for a night out.
For the funeral I wore it with thick black tights and knee boots, so very black. How could I dress it up for night-time?
The dress is kinda a heavy jersey material - short sleeves and plain with 2 fake pocket flaps. Length is past mid-thigh but a decent distance from my knee (sorry, I can't find any pictures online)
I don't really do coloured shoes and black tights but I have these shoes and wondered if they would work? What sort of necklace? I'm thinking a long one?
What would you wear?

To dress up a black dress I'd go for either a long necklace like you say, with some chunky bracelets, or what's really in now are collar necklaces like this:
I'm not sure those shoes would work with black tights tbh as the nude might look weird. But personally with some bling on the dress I see nowt wrong with black tights & black shoes.

The shoes are nice but I tend to stick to plain shoes with dresses. If I'm wearing a black dress I'll either wear nude tights and black shoes or those barely black type tights with the black shoes and then add my colour with accessories. Like KS said, statement jewellery is big so I usually do something like that and/or a funky nail colour if I want to add a splash of colour.

I was going to suggest one of those collar type necklaces to bling up your outfit. I would go for some killer shoes too to dress it up. Tights depend on what shoes you go for. Sparkly handbag too??

Blingy jewellery and killer heels. No tights if you can bare it, but black heels and black tights if you have to! x

Oooh, and there was me thinking i'd try and join in the trend of wearing coloured shoes and black tights!
The shoes aren't nude, they're actually a pale pinky colour. I thought as they had black on them they may look OK.
I will see if I can take a picture.
i'd prefer to wear it with the thick black tights. I've got canny legs but since being pg i'm not loving them as much - but in tights they still don't look bad. Plain black shoes, all I've got is a pair of stilletos, a pair with a strap across and a bow on the side, and I think I may still have a pair with laces in (just one lace across the middle, not full on lace up style). Would those look OK with thick black tights?
That collar necklace is quite cool. Will see if I can get into town for a mooch.

Bit of a crap photo but the best I can do.
My plain black shoes on one foot and the 2 tone ones on the other. I'm not that keen on my black shoes with thick black tights so may need to dig out some others.

GB you've lost loads of weight! I'd put a collar necklace on that dress no problem.

Nice of you to say but I haven't! I'm the same weight as my booking in apt but with a flabby belly!
Do the 2 tone shoes look ok? or does it need to be black?

In that case it's a good picture!
Can you do a side shot of the shoes?

Slightly turned to the side, tummy sucked in (will wear the sucky in tights on the night) and hand on hip - always a good trick!
Will see if I can get a shot of the shoes from the side

I bought these m.direct.asda.com/.../G004018640,default,pd.html
Yesterday to wear with a black dress and black tights for a Christmas party. They look much nicer in real life. I love them!
I think plain black shoes and bling up with jewellery x
