Me and H have decided to go to Edinburgh for the night for our wedding anniversary as my mam is taking the kids to a wildlife park for the day and keeping them overnight.
We always tend to go south but for a change have decided to go north and go to Edinburgh. The last time we went was about 12 years ago for a friends birthday, there was about 30 of us and it was a brilliant weekend.
So, any recs for hotels and where to go appreciated.
Although my mam has just thrown a spanner in the works and was wondering if the Tattoo is on in July as well as August?????

I think the tattoo starts at the very start of august. For where to stay it depends how much you are looking to pay, theres tiger lily on George St which is pretty fancy, down to premier inns on princes st.
What date are you looking at?

We aren't looking at anything fancy - driving up on the morning, shopping and boozing in the afternoon then out on the night.

In that case there's a travelodge on st Mary's street which is just off the royal mile and as I say there's a premier inn on princes st. They are really central. There's loads of bars on george st and the surrounding areas, and most shops on princes st plus Harvey nicks at end of george st.
Any other questions just shout x

The Jury's Inn is quite central and close to Waverley train station. The festival runs from 2nd-26th august and the tattoo is similar 2nd-24th.
Lots to see and do during festival but hotels will be more expensive and possibly scarce. When are you going?

The witchery (just next to the castle) is AMAZING ! Really lovely food and theme rooms in the hotel.

The Witchery is FAB! But very pricey

Jury's is a good shout actually. Agree on the Witchery too, I've only eaten there but it was pretty amazing.

I live in Edinburgh and would agree Jury's is a good recommendation. Having been to the Witchery twice I was distinctly unimpressed by the food. There are far better places
I would recommend for food Martin Wishart in Leith, Wedgewood on the Royal Mile, or Galvin Brasserie du Luxe at the Calidonian Hilton on Princes Street. You can't beat Tigerlily for some cocktails and Cafe Anduluz on George Street is lovely for a good value Tapas and a great atmosphere. If you like wine be sure to visit Divino Entonoca underneath Vittorias on george iv bridge, It's an amazing anti pasti and wine vault with untold wines by the glass. Afternoon tea is pretty amazing at The Calidonian and Mimi's Bakehouse In Leith. the Ship on The Shore is amazing for seafood (also in Leith) and their brunch is pretty impressive too....... Hopefully the weather will stay as nice as it has been last week or so, it's like costa del Firth of Forth at the minute! X

Agree with all the above, great review KB! I love tigerlily for a girly cocktail fuelled gathering and Martin Wishart is another good shout
