So I've just been to one of my closest friends daughter's first birthday. Just a small family do with a couple of friends. I have know her for 20 years and have meet her nan on several occasions. When I was pregnant with Matt she told me I'd always been fat. Made my day as you can imagine. So I was kind of dreading today, even though I have lost quite a bit of weight recently.
Anyway. She walked in through the door and my friend said you remember Nala And her Nan replied with 'oh yes tubby Nala' I'm really upset a because of what was said and that everyone heard it and lots of people gasped around the room. But also because Matt (4) on the way home asked me why that woman called me fat.
My H said I should have walked out. But what would you have done. I've decided I'm not going to anything she will be at again. I'm a grown woman for goodness sakes. I don't need to be spoken to like that.

That is awful and it's no surprise you're upset about it. She clearly hasn't heard "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all". I would want to explain to my friend why I wasn't going to be at anything her nan was at but only you
Know if you can say that to your friend.
Have a hug from me-no one deserves to be spoken to like that x

How incredibly rude - I would have felt exactly the same as you - the same as when my mum the other day said you have lost weight which is really great! _I wasn't trying to lose weight and now feel like maybe I should be!
I think keep your distance if you can x
Gosh that is so rude and out of order. I too would have been upset by that. I don't blame you at all for not wanting to go to anything where she will be at again. Did your friend say anything to you or about the comment?

That's so rude. Unfortunately older people seem to think they can just say whatever they like, and they do. Try not to let it get to you too much and I can't blame you if you never went back when she's around!!!!
Big hugs xx

Thanks everyone. Nice to know I'm not over reacting.

It doesn't particular sound like she is a friend tbh? But as another POV the elderly sometimes think being tubby is a compliment - meaning you've lived well. Still can be hurtful. My son wouldn't think saying someone is fat is an insult because his mummy is fat and he loves her. But often people are jsut twats.

What a cheeky old bat. What did your friend say? Could she not have a word with her nan? If my nanna said that to one of my friends I would be furious.

How horrible and what a nasty woman...I'm sorry you're upset x I also would have been so upset if my nan spoke to a friend of mine like that !
Hope you are feeling ok and not letting her get to you x

How charming! I probably wouldn't have been able to stop myself from coming back with 'oh yes and you are trout faced X' but that's because you are a nicer person than me! You've done brilliantly losing all the weight again and you look great for it ,ignore the old fogeys. Probably blind anyway! Xxx

Oh babes, that's awful.
She sounds like she and my Nan would get on really well.
Some people just have NO tact. You know you have lost loads of weight in the last year. Seriously, you are an inspiration to me and I can't wait to get shifting lard once baby is here.
The fact that people gasped should show you that what she said was bloody rude.
Don't let her get you down. Love you Mrs xxx
