Was cooking tea last night and the sausages smoked a bit. The super sensitive smoke alarms went off. U handled it with aplomb - B on the other hand was hysterical. I opened the back and front doors and the breeze cleared the house. I sat down with both children at the front door and explained about the fire alarms and what to do if they ever heard them. B just ended up sobbing that he didn't want the house to burn down (nothing of the sort mentioned by me!) whereas U just accepted the idea.
Imagination isn't really everything is it?

Ours went off and S 18 months automatically ran for the door, or maybe it was just an excuse to get away from my cooking. P is a worrier like that, it's upto you if you would lie to him to calm him but maybe play it down that it would be just a small pan fire but to always follow procedure just incase. I hope he doesn't worry too much.

Probably because he's older and can understand that this can really happen more than U can.
Just reassure him that this way he knows what to do but its very unlikely to happen. And the firemen will put it out anyway (a few gentle confidence boosting lies probably helps here!).

Cheers both. He hasn't mentioned it today which means he is either stewing over it and it will suddenly come out or he has forgotten. I'm hoping it is the latter. U loves Fireman Sam and I thought B did too and had hoped he wouldn't worry as much as he did. I think the shock of it going off didn't help.
