Hi, I was wondering if you ladies of Mumdrum might be able to help me!
It's my partner's nephew's first birthday soon and we have very little experience with babies...can anyone recommend a great birthday present for a lovely one year old boy who seems to have everything?
Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, not sure what it would be classed as...

Not the most original of ideas but F loves books, especially the 'That's not my' series. For his first birthday he was given bath toys, clothes and toys. His favourite seems to be a paddling pool/ball pool.

Ooh thanks, books are a good idea! We could write a nice message on the inside cover or something...I want it to be something special but also something he can enjoy, if you know what I mean.
I thought about getting a voucher for a photo session at a studio, but my boyfriend has dismissed this saying there are too many photos of the baby already...!

It depends on your budget really - my brother and wife bought my 1st child a lovely wooden toy box for her first birthday. Other ideas would be an engraved wooden stool or a personalised canvas or clock for his bedroom wall?

Thanks Mossy, they are really lovely ideas! I'm taking note of all these, I think a toybox would be really useful as they've just moved and his stuff is everywhere.

Have you asked the parents for any guidance? They might have some ideas/suggestions.
Books - recommend the Duck in the Truck series by Jez Alborough or any other by him. 'Fix it Duck' was my daughter's favourite book somewhere between 1 and 2 years old. Or 'Hairy McLairy' books.

This mightn't fit your bill, but whenever this question is asked, I always rave on about the beautiful height chart Miss CV received for her 1st birthday - I can't even remember what else she received, but hopefully we'll have this forever, or at least till she's almost a teenager. Hers is a cloth one and it hangs on the back of her door (and is pretty enough that i think she'll be happy to have it as part of her room decor until she is pretty 'grown up') and every year on her birthday, I measure her and put a stitch in to mark the year. She loves looking at it on a more regular basis and seeing what height she is and how little she used to be.

I have seen a gorgeous height chart actually! I held off from asking his parents because I want it to be a surprise, but I did ask my boyfriend's parents, and whatever one thought was a good idea, the other didn't...My boyfriend will reject every idea and then we'll get to the day before his birthday and he'll say 'What have we got him?'...
