My OH joined the gym at the start of last week (has a few stone to loose) and has been following my fitness pal which has previously used and lost weight on.He went to the gym tues, wed, thurs and fri - thursday he had a personal training session on boxing and carido! Other days were just carido - treadmill, cross trainer, bike and a bit of rowing.
Anyway, he weighed himself this morning and he is 6 lbs heavier than when he started!
I know he hasnt been cheating with the food and stuff.I originally thought it was muscle he'd gained, but 6lbs seems alot for a weeks worth of work.
Any other ideas? Or what is he doing wrong?

Has he weighed himself at the same time of day? I tend to always weigh myself in the morning before breakfast as I can really fluctuate throguhout the day. Also has he been drinking a lot of water just before weighing? That can really skew the scales.
The other option is that muscle weighs more than fat but as he has some weight to loose and it's only been a week that would be unlikely.
If he has a PT have they got any ideas?
Good on him for getting strated with it though hope he keeps it up! I need to get back into my fitness routine xx

Yes, it has been in the morning. As i know from myself i can weigh differently through the day.
So he wouldnt really have been drinking any water either! So a bit confusing hey!
The PT was just a trial thing. I think he has got like a 121 session with somebody this week to talk about his goals and stuff so hopefully they will be able to sort him out. Was just very confusing as he has done really well this week!
I am very proud of him for doing this. I wish i could afford for the both of us to join, but im doing ok on my own weight loss anyway so i'l let him have the luxury lol

It is strange! The only other thing I can think is that sometimes it can take a week for bodies to catch up with activity - so if he had a blowout the week before that could be showing now and all the hard work will be visible next week! Might be worth seeing what the 1 2 1 person says too though.
Sounds like you're both doing great! I just did 3 sessions PT with a deal on groupon - was only £10 and she showed me quite a few new exercises so both keep your eyes open for things like that. Or college students who need some PT case studies for their NVQ.

It can take a while for you body to get used to a new exercise regieme. When you exercise your muscles are damaged very slightly at a micro level and swell slightly thus retaining water, which may initially show up as a weight gain. The effect of this should level itself out when you continue with an exercise habit, but can seem a bit strange at first. I would always recommend measuring yourself with a tape measure as well as on the scales to get a more accurate picture of any weight/siz loss.

That would make sence A - i may get him to ask the gym to measure him so he has that to go by too.
Just dont want him getting down about the lack of weight loss, but hopefully it will start to even out soon!
