Our oven conked out 2 weeks ago, at the grand old age of 6 months, and we're still waiting for it to be repaired. In the meantime, we're stuck with the microwave and hob to cook meals. I'm getting to a point now where I'm sick to death of pasta and sauce, chicken tonight and rice etc. Does anyone have any ideas for anything a bit different we could have to change things up a bit? On weekdays we're a bit limited due to both having quite lengthy commutes but we'd be willing to do preparation the evening before or on a morning if needs be.

Have you got a slow cooker? If so Stews, casseroles can be prepared day before.
On the hob - Curries, Chilli?
Will keep thinking

Gah - did long reply with links and stuff and its been eaten. We are on an asian inspired theme at the momentnin the Sparkles household and often do dinner in a hurry This is what we are eating that you could just do on the hob/ microwave
Noodles - noodle soup (www.nigella.com/.../that-chicken-noodle-soup-5156), noodle stir fry (cook noodles, stir fry chicken, chuck in garlic, peppers, carrots, broccoli, onions, spring onions, chilli and stir fry hard and fast, add noodles and good slug of ketjap manis), pad thai (www.redonline.co.uk/.../the-best-chicken-pad-thai)
Rice - chilli, mirin glazed salmon (www.nigella.com/.../mirin-glazed-salmon-21), gok wan's garlic chicken (if you google you can find some blogs with the recipe), crispy chilli beef with broccoli (www.bbcgoodfood.com/.../crispy-chilli-beef-with-broccoli), ginger chicken and chicken and cashew nuts.
Wraps - fajitas, cheese quesadillas and salsa
Pasta - homemade carbonara (the jamie oliver recipe with corguettes is really nice and easy), rataouille and pasta
Griddle - teriyaki salmon, harissa chicken with couscous, lemon and honey glazed chicken with pitta and griddled veggies with youghurt/ hummus.

Thanks for all the suggestions, very much appreciated! Soups are unlikely as I have soup most days for lunch, but there are some great other ideas there. Thanks so much for the recipe links RS!
