OMG it was amazing!
basically H and i dont have any luck at all, turned up, had our drinks, i ordered a flaming mojito which was a very strange taste and served warm but it was nice, anyway arrived at our table, decided for ages what did we want, really toyed with the 13 course tasting menu but decided to do the 6 course lunch with wine flight (so a glass of wine at each course), first course came and then we ate it, then manager approached to say that it was likely the power would go out at some point during the meal and they profusely apologise, they would serve as much as they can but they can not apologise enough for our poor experience, so as an apology our whole meal was free and we have a complimentary meal (again free) booked next month
anyway lights went out around our 5th course but that was the dessert which was served cold anyway, it wasnt dark although the kitchen looked dark and the toilets were. but it in no way impacted on our meal at all
us being us, absolutely filled our boots, we even had cheese and port and then Aiden Byrne (chef who owns it) came to say happy birthday to me and again profusely apologise for the distressing time we had
nothing like this ever happens to us, we are usually told sorry powercut cant serve you and thats it!
anyway menu as follows
- onion consome with onion bread and butter and parmesan crisps
- parsley risotto with clams
- monkfish with ham in a broth
- mullard duck breast- rare, with walnuts and a cherry sauce and there was duck tongue too
- bread and butter pudding

Sounds amazing and how disappointing to have to go and do it all again for free!

I'm still totally revelling in it cedar as basically nothing like that EVER happens to us. I think the meal was around £220 as I was trying to work it out so it was £206 before port and we had 2 port so say cheapest is £7 a glass????
To say I was a tad drunk is an understatement, I remember chatting to Aiden Byrne about his children
Will try to upload pics in no but have poorly boy

That is fantastic, you lucky lady. I saw the FB posts, but I didn't realise just how much you'd got for free. And you get to do it all again. Enjoy!!

For a restaurant like that its worth it to them, businesswise, to offer it to you for free. You're paying for a high end standard of meal, service and experience. For them, its better that you think they are being generous and repeating the story positively than bad mouthing them to all your friends because things were less than perfect. You'll remember thw whole experience well rather than saying 'well the food was lovely but the power went in the kitchen and they didn't even off us a free glass of wine to make up for it'.
