What happens now? can you be made redundant whilst on mat leave? Im planning on going back in april, but havnt given my 8 weeks notice yet, Where do i stand? If they wanted rid of me would they do it now along with the rest, or wait until i contacted them? I suppose from there point of view, they dont know if im def coming back yet, so they would wait?

Yes you can be made redundant whilst on maternity leave. There are details about the process they should follow for redundancy on the You Gov website I think.
If you are under threat of redundancy there is a process that they have to follow to make sure that they have done it properly. The process depends on the number of employees there overall.
Sorry to hear this, its a horrible situation to be in, hope things become clearer soon.

WCS, yes you can I'm afraid.
They have to follow the same procedure with you as they would with any other employee, that is put you on notice of possible redundancy, have you in for consultation to discuss before making a decision (well that's what they're supposed to do). They do have to be very careful with you though, to ensure that your current family situation has absolutely nothing to do with their decision.
Good info on the Working Families website, you do have some additional protection: If you are made redundant during maternity leave regulation 10 of the Maternity and Parental Leave etc Regulations 1999 says that you must be offered any suitable alternative vacancies. You do not have to apply or be interviewed for any suitable alternative vacancy but should be offered it in priority to your colleagues.
