We said we weren't going to go away but have now just thought 'stuff it', and I'm hoping to go away now. We have left it majorly late to get any deals for the school hols in August but was thinking of flying from Scotland when the Scottish schools are back and English schools still off.
anyway my hs mate from work got a vvvv cheap deal to Florida (flight, car and villa) so we thought we could consider that but I'm just wondering, can you do Florida without doing the parks?? We couldn't afford park tickets as I imagine they are extortionate (obviously iv not looked but I can imagine). I think it would be cheap enough to eat, we'd have a car villa and pool and could get out and about. Or since L and I are 4 and 1 then us there like some sort of cheaper park alternative? What other things are there to do?
failing that then I reckon we just keep our eyes peeked for a last minute deal or something on hot deals really.
we are in dire need of the break so has anyone got any ideas where we won't have to pay through the nose? I so wish I'd shopped about ages athaw hen free child places etc were available

Where abouts in Florida?
L and I are young enough not to know that's where Mickey Mouse lives so of course you can avoid the parks.
It'll be like any other villa/beach holiday, wouldn't it?

No idea rusty where, we just need some sun and got blown away by hs mates deal so I just wondered if it was doable without doing the parks. So it might not even be Florida it might be somewhere totally different.
First things first I need to get Isaac a passport eek , I'm going to keep looking for deals.
Really we shouldn't be going as we are trying to save madly for an extension but we are desperate to get away. I am so not organised, no clothes, no toiletries etc arrrrgh!
Iv booked annual leave for school hols as its better for us childcare wise but now I'm wondering whether to go term time as L starts reception in September, so its like our last chance to go iyswim

If I were you I'd go in term time, you'd be amazed how much cheaper it is.
What is your budget and what do you fancy? I'm bored at work and could help you look for something.
Where would you fly from?
11/04/2013 at 09:25
Well term time holidays are cheaper by quite a bit. So it will probably work out cheaper even without a free child place deal because the prices go up so much for the school holidays. No experience but the Floida Keys are supposed to be lovely. Would check the weather if you are going to choose Florida as sometimes its very humid which the kids might not enjoy. Curly Wurly has been loads and recently posted about best times to go as someone else was asking.

O bugger iv booked all annual leave now! Will need to see what h and I can get , well tbh the only reason Florida appealed was because hs mate got it for £900 for 2 adults and a 13 year old (is the 13 year old an adult???) and they aren't doing the parks but I thought that sounded fantastic!
In all honesty I just want sun shine, was looking at Greece, Portugal etc want somewhere where the children can enjoy it (but not a kids club hotel type place) in all honesty I'd like a villa, but we have left it so late for flights that it won't be possible.
So basically I want somewhere that isn't Brits abroad,
Can fly from Manchester and Glasgow but my cousin is flying from Manchester on 9 July so spending that day with her. O and L finishes nursery fri 24 July and I'm being daft but I don't want him to miss his last day as they might have a little disco as its their last day together with everyone [blush]

Budget, as cheap as sensibly possibly, ie I want to stay somewhere decent iyswim.
L is off out soon so if Isaac gives me a chance I'm going to look in a mo
11/04/2013 at 09:41
So, as cheap as possible.
Flying from Manchester or Glasgow - 2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant.
Greece or Portugal. What about Spain?
What dates are we looking at?
11/04/2013 at 09:47
Yes Spain too but not benidorm and places like that , so anytime between 2-8 July, 10-24 July, 8-23 aug, 25aug-1st sept
11/04/2013 at 09:49
Just for the week?
11/04/2013 at 09:51
Not fussed, week, 10 days or 2 weeks really but the 2 week ones would have to be August unfortunately due to al grrr! So jul 7-10 days x

how about tenerife but the north of the island? Puerto de la cruz is an amazing place, away from all the brit abroad type places of the south and there's all sorts to do. There's a lovely area on the sea front filled with huge pools of all different sizes so suitable for both ages, without the worry of the sea (I know this might not bother you, I'm just paranoid because Imogen just runs in at the first sight and we live at the beach so it's not even a novelty!). There's lots of child friendly things to do too, a wildlife park, but because you're on an island it's not far if you fancied doing something a bit more grown up like shopping in Santa Cruz. If you go out of term time you should get it relatively cheap because it tends to be more of a springtime place, but it will still be lovely in summer. Plus easyjet fly from Manchester.
I think Florida would be quite hard work with two little ones, mainly because of the flight?! Not sure how long it is but I think that's what would put me off? Plus I think you'd possibly get more for your money elsewhere? And being the big kid that I am, if I was going all that way I'd want to go to Disney!!
Spain wise, I suppose it depends how far away from places like benidorm you want to be? My grandma lives in a village called villajoyosa, which is half way between alicante and benidorm, with a beautiful beach and lots of nice bars/restaurants. Definitely child friendly because we used to go when I was a child. Flights to alicante are fairly cheap too. And then you aren't too far from bigger places like alicante for waterparks etc? I do remember going in august and it being incredibly hot one year, but that could happen wherever you go (although unlikely this year given this rubbish weather!!!)
11/04/2013 at 10:13
The flights to Portugal are reasonable.
This place looks nice.
We are going to Torremolinos this year. Would you consider going somewhere like that? Flights are pretty cheap.
11/04/2013 at 10:26
Spain wise iv been to Denia calpe and javea but I think ud def need a car so that's an added expense, web been to Los alcazares (???sp) but got on fine with out a car so it might be worth looking at that. I hadn't even thought of Tenerife tbh as iv been to playa de las Americas which was horrific and vowed never to go back, but you forget that that's only such a small area so will look there too
Thanks sw, I'm going to have a look then. Portugal looks good, just worried re the need if a car iyswim
L going out in a min so instead of housework I'm going to have a mooch!
11/04/2013 at 10:31
Would def recommend north of tenerife but playa de las Americas and Los Christianos are enough to put anyone off ever going back if that's the only place you've been!!! Depending on the time you want to go, there is actually an airport in the north of the island (reina sofia I think it's called) which is literally just down the road from Puerto de la Cruz so cuts down on transfer times!
Never been to Portugal myself but my parents have and loved it! I'm very jealous, we're making do with a week in wales in a couple of weeks! Can't complain really because my mum and dad booked it for us, but a 6 hour drive to get there at 35 weeks pregnant is going to be interesting! Plus I wish we were off somewhere hot and sunny!
11/04/2013 at 10:35
I like Los Cristianos.
We fancied Portugal this year but it was too expensive for us. We are paying £1050 for the four of us to go to Torremolinos for 10 days.
11/04/2013 at 10:43
We are going to La Pineda near Salou. I like places where they have a kids disco (lol) We are flying from Glasgow and got a really good deal, going last week of May 1st week of June though. Is Cyprus not supposed to be coming up cheaply at the moment?
11/04/2013 at 13:02
Oooo flights aren't as dear as I thought, can get 10 days in Murcia in either a town house or villa in July for about 900, wouldn't need a car. Need to have good in depth look tonight but first of all need to get Isaac a passport
11/04/2013 at 13:18
I noticed when we were looking that Murcia flights were cheap but wasn't actually keen on going there but £900 for 10 days is great.
Link to the townhouse and villa?
11/04/2013 at 13:23
Flights coming in at £450 but I think il buy Isaac a seat as I can't have him on my knee for 2.5 hrs. So that would be an extra £85, and I'd book in one big suitcase in the hold and hand luggage for the rest of us.
