I started some last night as I appear to have got an infection in my left leg below my knee, but the GP drew around the swollen red area with a permenant pen so I could see if it went down and it's got worse. It doesnt hurt as much, but its hotter and redder.
Should it be getting better by now or does it take a little longer? / Can I justifiably start panicking that my leg is going to fall off yet?

You need to be very careful with cellulitis, some times oral antibiotics can be find but the gp has drawn round the edges because it can spread quickly. So we tell people to come back if symptoms worsen but we review them in 48 hours too. If you vomit, have diarrhoea, develop a fever or the redness goes over the line then I'd go back (so since gp closed go to A&E it walk in centre - walk in centre can refer you to the hospital as if its worsening then you woukd need iv anti biotics

Oh bother, it's over the red line in parts, and is hot and itchy. I'm guessing this isn't good then. He did tell me to call Out of Hours doc if no improvement over the weekend. Shall I hang out til the morning? I'm on my own with the kids at the moment.

Sorry not red line, black line. About the width of two fingers over if the original area that he drew around was sort of pear shaped is this bad?

No don't panic. Cellulitis is a bugger, sometimes antibiotics orally are fine but some times you need iv. Give ooh a call, you might need iv anti biotics which dependant on the area you live doesn't necessarily mean a hospital stay, sometimes you can have daily trips to hospital for antibiotics, other times you stay for 1/2 days for antibiotics. Catarina, you should be fine until morning as long as you aren't vomitting or have high temperature. Keep taking the antibiotics, they can take up to 48 hours to take effect. If you are still worried then go to your local walk in centre tomorrow. You can pm me a photo of your leg if you want

Thank you ladies, I'm fine otherwise, no other symptoms. It doesn't hurt half as much as it did yesterday, I could put my own underwear on this morning
I'll give out of hours a call in the morning.
heartnurse - I've just taken a photo on my phone, but can't work out how to PM it? How do I do it?

I'm sat in the waiting room right now weekender. Don't feel so bad, but leg a lot redder. Was supposed to be meeting friends in London for a boozy lunch today- gutted. That happenstance rarely! I'm not annoyed about that than anything.
03/02/2013 at 10:06
Sorry - More annoyed about that! Silly auto correct
03/02/2013 at 10:28
ah I'm glad you are at docs, sounds painful. You make sure you re arrange your boozy lunch, you deserve a break even if only for a couple of hours.

Wow, I'm getting another penicillin med to take alongside the current one and can carry on as normal in baggy trousers and loose snow boots! Interesting style for a
Lunch in London, but I don't care I can go, phew.

What antibiotics have you got? I really hate to be a spoilsport but certain ones make you feel really sick if you drink on them. Dare I say take it easy on the alcohol [ducks for cover]
Hope these additional ones get on top of it x
