I was 16ish I think, so it was about 1999. I was the one who discovered SMS messenging I think because I ran up a £60 bill in my first month - it used to be 12p per text in those days. It was a dinky little blue Panasonic thing, I loved it. I remember getting a Nokia 3310 and playing that snake game on it.
Before I had a mobile I had to use payphones to call my olds if I was going to be late home, or if I was staying out. There was no other way to get in contact. How did we survive?!

20, just after I finished university in 1996 - I remember it cost me £5 and I think it cost me £15 a month. It was an analogue one but quite cute and small (for those days), and ended up getting cloned about a year after I'd had it which I found out when they wrote to me to say I'd gone over the £100 credit limit! Luckily it was insured so didn't have to pay anything. IIRC, you couldn't even text on it, just make phone calls - can't imagine a phone like that these days!

I can't remember, must have been about the same time though. Everyone had a 3310, didn't they?

17, bought with my first pay packet. Had an original 0956 number which my dad still has!

I think I was 12. I used to get myself to school and back on the train and my grandma had been nagging my mum to give me one so I could call if needed. One day I stayed late at school for drama rehearsal and called home using a friend's phone, and asked my little brother to ask mum to pick me up. Wires were crossed, I was waiting outside school and she was waiting outside the train station. School had shut and my friends had gone home, one of the sixth formers running the drama club stayed with me bless her. After all that palaver (I can't even remember what happened in the end) my parents gave in! I had a Nokia 3310 and then a 3330. Those things were indestructible.

I was about 14, so 1999 My Dad bought me one, as my Mum wouldn't let me have one (divorced parents, I played them off against each other, haha)
I soon "upgraded" for a Nokia 3210, purely so I could swap the cover. I had about 20 different cases for it.

Mine would have been in 1999 too, the year I left school. It was on Orange, and like this

21! But it was only when I was 19 ish that they became the norm.
A got one at Christmas - motivated by the fact she can then call dad when she likes. I think it's too young really.

I got mine in 1999 too. I was 22 at the time. Before that I had a pager....why?!
03/07/2013 at 10:42
Pagers! Oh I'd forgotten about those. It was so cool to have a pager wasn't it.
This was my first phone. I was a proper Del Boy!

21, so 1998 and it was a brick lol

I got one for my 16th birthday in 1998. I hated it at the time because I didn't really know anyone who had be at first. Then everyone started getting them and I loved it. I had a contract phone (crazy dad!) and back then there were loads of ways of dodging paying anything by keying in certain things, after I started texting though my dad made me switch to a PAYG!

Oh and both my first phones were Siemens. The first one was HUGE, a proper brick, the next one was teeny.

I was 22 but it was only for emergencies. I only really started using a mobile phone since Ex left, so it might as well be 33!

I got one for my 18th birthday in 1998, it was such a novelty I was in awe when I opened the box! That was when you had to buy the vouchers for it and half wAs credit and half airtime which used to really piss me off!
