... and my Sunday night, and probably every night next week ..... than writing school reports.
I know it's only once a year, but man, I hate them! And I can't do them quickly like some teachers do, I have to make them all look individual, unique, fair, etc. It's dull as hell. I do wonder if some of them even get read sometimes!

Well if it makes you feel any better, I know that when my two start getting reports I will read them over and over and love reading the insight a teacher can provide. As for having to do it on a Saturday night - yip that sucks!

Yeah I know Alsi, I'm very aware that the ones I write are always the first school ones that will be received, so for the parents that do care I want them to be lovely and something to be proud of, (unless I have to spell out the brutual truth, which is always a mission of tact and diplomacy!) but I hate hate hate writing them.

I hate writing reports too. They take me so long and I bet most people don't even read them that carefully!!

At least you only have to write 30ish I have to write 180+ although they are spread out through out the year... I always write individual ones but I've read what other staff have written and it is a lot of copying and pasting My HOY said to one of the office staff that she loves proof reading mine as they are alwasy lovely to read - no-one has ever actually said that to me though! There are a lot of kids where there are one in each year group from the same family - I sometimes wonder if the reports come home and they read nearly identical reports for each child and that's why I try to write something personal for each child

Christ 180??? Do you only have to write one subject? I just hate writing them every year I think why don't I start earlier Nd yet rather then writing them I'm on here!!

One subject but it isn't just one line per report! We have to comment on several different areas within that subject. I teach 7 classes this year of between 15 and 33 in each class. It does sometimes get difficult trying to sound original with each one!

I find that the hardest when you write a report for the same child or siblings and try to make it different each time but similar so they make sense! Wat subject do you teach?

Science although mainly physics but also sometimes RE! I assume you are primary? (Rather you than me!)

Haha, yes I teach eyfs and year 1 so 4.5 and 6 year olds. You teach the subject I hate and scary big kids- amazing!!

QI - I have 44 children, 7 areas of learning and 3 areas of Characteristics of learning for each child, plus general comments - so 11 boxes per child, which is about 3 A4 sides per child - and that is plenty! This is on top of their learning journeys.

Why do you have so many children? Isn't it 30 children per teacher in eyfs?
03/06/2013 at 00:21
It's Nursery, so it's one teacher to 13, one Early Years worker to 8. I have a team of 4 (because we also take children with severe and complex needs so have a smaller adult:child ratio), but not all the kids are in at the same time (they can do full time or part time flexi hours), so even though I only have about 25-30 at any one time, I have 44 children on my class list, and I am the only teacher, so I get the reports, even though I only work part time. It sucks.

Wow that's a tough deal, especially as you're part time as well!!
