So I braved aldi last night! Bar a few baby items and toiletries I managed to get my weekly shop ( plus treats id not normally buy) for around £25 less than asda. I reckon the saving is actually more as some of tbe quantities etc from Aldi are bigger and cheaper than asda so like for like comparison hasn't been easy to do. I'm well chuffed with the price. Over the week I'll judge the quality. The only downside is that its not really local to me, at least a 15-20 min drive...where asda is 5 mins...but if I can save £25 a week thats £100 a month which isn't to be sniffed at!!

Ooooh that's excellent. What did you buy as a rough idea? I'm going to go to Northfleet one Sunday for our usual bits like fruit, veg, tinned goods, bread, cereals etc
I saw an ad for the Aldi challenge last night and thought of you.

That's a good saving.
I just can't get away with the place. Aldi is so close to my house, less than a minutes drive away or 2 minute walk but I much prefer Asda.

My In Laws rave about Aldi all the time and the quality on a lot of the items seems the same as you'd get in Tescos. We don't have one anywhere near us so I've never been myself.

That's brilliant! I've been considering going to Aldi, it's about the same distance as all the other supermarkets.

Fab. We really like Aldi. Especially for the different meats, for when the kids make their own pizzas.
They do mad sales sometimes too, I got C a couple of packs of pants for 35p for 5 pairs.
Not forgetting their gorgeous Prosecco for £5.99!!!

Dont get me wrong its quicker for me to go to tesco/asda/morrisions but the savings outweigh that and I make sure I only shop once a week at aldi, whereas I would constantly keep going out for extras!
writing a list helps round aldi - sometimes I think ooo bargain but actually i dont need it!

1stBaby Lauren and I were saying yesterday we always get sucked into to George at Asda and end up buying clothes!
Thats great, it outweights the fuel cost easy over a month!
They are building a super Aldi near me, supposed to be one of the biggest in Europe to rival the big Tesco Extra (they will sell electricals and homewear too) I can see us all going there in the summer

I never find anything in Asda anymore, all the stuff I buy I send back!
17/01/2014 at 12:46
We don;t have an Aldi but I really like our Lidl. The meat and veg is SO much cheaper.

I thought you'd like it munchkin, I agree with 1stbaby, I think a list is good for aldi.. I still come away with bits I don't need and I don't have room for! I get so much more snacks and fruit than we can get for our money in other shops and these kids don't stop eating!
17/01/2014 at 13:47
what sort of snacks we talking, choc bar types or other stuff You know what Louie is like for a snack! and how much is a pack of apples say?
17/01/2014 at 14:01
Taylor LOVES seal bars, imitations of a penguin but you can't taste the difference, you get about 8 for 69p or something stupid. A bag of apples £1.29 grapes the same price.
decent cookies 89p (biggish ones)
the beans and spaghetti are better than the Asda branded ones (tried them last week)
17/01/2014 at 14:02
They just have loads of snacks, most of it is their own but things like Jaffa cakes, Kipling type cakes, biscuits galore, cereal bars, marshmallow tea cakes, fun size chocolate bars (branded)
17/01/2014 at 14:06
Last night I got a bag of apples for 79p, 10 bags of quavers (there version of) for 99p, 6x bag of animal biscuits (there version of) 89p, box of apple pies (as good as mr Kipling) 79p
Medium whole chicken 3.99, tomatoes 49p, swede 49p, grapes £1.29, £2.49 50 dishwasher tablets.
17/01/2014 at 14:09
Right maybe I shouldn't take lou with me next week! LOL
17/01/2014 at 14:12
They also do cheap cereals, mostly their brand but coco pops, shreddies, crunchy nut, frosties etc
17/01/2014 at 15:47
Munchkin - their dishwasher tablets are really good too. So is the Almat washing liquid
17/01/2014 at 18:28
Was about to ask about the dishwasher tablets. Will get some next time I'm in. I go once a week to get a few bits. I prefer the meat from Aldi rather than Tesco.
There are still things I end up going into Tesco for though that I prefer.
