I have just discovered I am pregnant, after 4 positive tests I think I am around 4 weeks pregnant. I am petrified and excited at the same time!! I am 38 and fell unexpectedly after only being with my partner for a month. We are not together and hes already said he cannot commit to me emotionally which ended the relationship. have no idea how to tell him.
I feel I will be doing this on my own with the support of family and friends. Any advice on what I need to do next in terms of doctor, work, what to expect etc would be greatly appreciated, I think I had in my head already decided I would never have children and I'm in shock!!
Thankyou in advance

Congrats! It will settle in soon enough and you wont be on your own as you will get great support from the ladies here aswell as your family and friends! And if he doesnt like it well tough sh*t it takes 2 to make a baby you didnt get pregnant by yourself Give your docs a call, with my first I had to see a doc then booked in with midwife at about 8/9 weeks, 2nd time round I didnt need to see a doc just made my app with the midwife.

Hi Angela, congratulations.
For the time being focus on you - book yourself an appointment with your Dr to confirm you have a positive test result. They will normally then calculate your estimated due date (EDD) with you & refer you to a midwife. Depending on your area you may have to call the midwife to arrange an appointment or they may phone you, they will talk through your family history & arrange a bloodtest to determine your bloodgroup & check for certain immunities. They should also arrange your dating scan & discuss with you the options of where you can give birth.
Work you don't need to officially notify until 25wks into term but many women do tell them around 8-12wks into term as you are legally entitled to 'time off for antenatal care' so if your scans fall during work hours you are entitled to go.
As for the baby's father, some men will warm to the idea & become more supportive whilst others try & ignore the fact. He won't be able to ignore it however as they can test DNA to prove he is the father & they can take child support for you & baby directly from his wage slip if need be.
In short summary, look after yourself, things will work themselves out & you will manage with whatever happens next. Best wishes.

I have seen the doctor He was fantastic and answered all my questions so I feel relieved everything is doing what it should be at this early stage. I was so worried being 38 I thought I was over the hill and he laughed and said you are technically still a young expectant mum, woman are having babies in their late 40's now!! Dont worry
He gave me prescription for folic acid which I've collected and took my first one today, midwife booked for 30th July.
I have told my ex partner.... Understandably he was in complete shock and a huge row followed. An hour later he called me and apologised and said he wants to make a go of things and will support me and our child. So just going to relax now and let this little bean grow and take good care of myself.
My EDD is 26th Feb 2014
