As you can probably see from the title, I'm clueless. I want to get h a tablet for his birthday. I know the iPads are fab but they cost lots more than other tablets, is it justified iyswim? The new kindles seem to do most of what an iPad does don't they or am I being dumb? Or there is the HX, thing? Can anybody help please?

If you can afford an iPad get an iPad. I thought tablets were pretty much the same but since I've used an iPad they are way better. Faster, easier to load / download, easier to navigate....

So it's more a case of ease and time then. Thank you. I love the iPads I'm just torn, he doesn't know what I'm thinking but if he did he would probably want a cheapest option. Just thinking on my feet but if it were a kindle type one or a like new condition pre owned one from game or somewhere then what would you say?

I dond't even know how much they are. I'd definitely look at preloved.

E has just bought herself a Google Nexus 7. Its apparently the next best thing to an iPad. A friend who works in the computer/IT/Gadgets business recommended it and I've read all of the review and they say the same thing.
It was £159 + £9.99 delivery. Its a 7" tablet. She only got it on Tuesday, I've been faffing around with it and it seems good.

That sounds like a recommendation from a good source thanks sw. I think the iPads are around the £400 mark aren't they, il have a look. Passing game yesterday I'm sure it said pre owned from £170?
If I could choose a tablet, I'd go for a Samsung Galaxy Note or Tab 2 depending on what size you wanted - being on Android there are so many free apps you can get and they get fantastic reviews (my brother's girlfriend has a Note and loves it!)
Although I loved the idea of the Kindle fire when they first came out, I don't think I'd get one because they're on a different operating system with not so many apps available.

And be careful buying an ANdroid run operating system. Some say they are Google / Android but actually only run certain versions. I bought one by mistake thinking I could sync with my Android phone but it would only allow use with GetJar which was beyond rubbish.

Ah thanks Deedee, I think that rules a kindle out the as know he would use it for books but I certainly want it for apps.

I have the Kindle Fire.
Don't get one, you can't play Candy Crush on it

No candy crush would sooo be a deal breaker for me! Can you use whatsapp on other tablets, he uses that. I don't know why I'm asking he will never have it off the kids anyway, we only get our phones handed back for calls!

What about the iPad mini? I wouldn't go past an iPad personally.

Zoe has a Kindle Fire, H has an iPad. They are no where near comparable. The Kindle is great for what we wanted it for for Zoe, ie downloading free kids games, so she isn't constantly trying to steal my phone.

Thanks all, il have a look at how much a mini is. Jelly baby you have seen through me, I just want my iPhone back of the kids. P has a 3ds with tons of games steal opts for free apps on our phones. I'm going to make a short list from this then may get a second vote of everyone.
