So the saga of my lady bits continues, after a colposcopy, a loop diathermy and 3 insufficient smear tests, I've got to have an operation. Apparently my cervix is so closed and there's lots of scar tissue from the loop diathermy and they can't get the "thing" in to do the smear. So they can't see if all the pre-cancerous cells have gone. The consultant gave me 3 options, 1 was to leave it and just hope that the precancerous cells don't re-appear. 2 is to have a cervix dilation which is a small op done under a GA where they try and stretch the entrance to the cervix so that they can carry out a smear. 3 was to have a hysterectomy
So, for now i'm going for option 2, and then if that doesn't work, then I looks as though hysterectomy is the next option. Leaving it and hoping for the best isn't an option in my opinion. So I go in on the 21st Jan. It should be a simple half day thing, so can I please have lots of vibes that it works, and that it is just a simple half day thing.
Also, if anyone else has had this done, then please feel free to share your experiences, all the doctor seemed to do was offer me scary stories of people who'd had it done and they ended up damaging their womb or their bladder.

I'm more of a lurker but hopefully I can help put your mind at rest as it sounds similar to what I had done. I had a very similar history (abnormal smear, colposcopy, biopsies) then went in to have diathermy. At that point they decided they couldn't get to all the areas they needed to and I had to be admitted and have an op under GA. To be honest, at that point I didn't know if I had cancerous cells and was stressing about that (and the fact I had never had a GA and was terrified of them). It was all fine though. I went in first thing in the morning, went on to the ward to wait for my turn, was in surgery by 9.30am and home by 2pm. Felt a bit groggy from the GA but no pain at all from the op itself (and I ended up having about 2/3 of my cervix removed as an extra). They gave me antibiotics afterwards as a precaution and I had to go back to the consultant to have check ups afterwards, but I think that was due to the amount they had to remove. I still have 6 monthly smears, which have all been clear and my cervix has repaired/regrown and is completely normal.
There - far more information than you need to know about a stranger! - but hope it helps. It really was fine, no pain, in and out quickly and no lasting after effects.

loads of vibes for you x

I had pretty much the same story as LolaB. Did they do your previous loop treatment under local? The GA knocked me for six, I've never coped well with GA's though. Make sure you rest up as much as you can afterwards.
I'm glad you don't have to wait too long, it's such a worry.

LolaB and Sshh, thank you so much for sharing your stories. They have helped. Sshh, the loop was done with a local, although tbh I still felt it and it did make me feel queasy afterwards.

No experience, but tons of vibes for you.
They wouldn't do these operations if they didn't have a high level of success, they are just warning you of the worst possible outcomes because they have to. If causing additional damage was very common they wouldn't be able to perform the operation.
