This is the first time we've ever had to find an outfit for world book day, I'm thinking little red riding hood and just wondering if anybody has any tips on making a cape for E? or would you just try and buy one? I don't want to spend lots because we have to have an outfit for St david's day in the same week!!

this looks easy enough.
spose its cost of material Vs cost of cape

Thanks twink, that's a much better set of instrcutions than I'd found, I'm almost hoping somebody in the family has some spare red material lying around, but I may need to buy it, in which case it might prove easier to buy a cloak I suppose.
For some reason I really want to make this!! Any suggestions for what kind of material would work best?

The instructions say cotton fabric so if you have a thick cotton sheet buy some red dye and hey presto :) a table cloth could also work if it is a plain colour. Just a thought.

If you have an Ikea near you they do a fleece blanket for a couple of quid that would give you enough material for that.

Rusty - I've pursuaded E she wants to go as little red riding hood as I thought I could do most of the outfit from everyday clothes, it was this or Snow White which is my back up plan.
My MIL has found some red material she used to make a father Christmas outfit so hopefully I'm going to be able to use that, just need to find a basket now.
Thanks for your comments, btw, lots of useful ideas :)

A quick update...
I made this cape www.fleecefun.com/red-riding-hood-cape-pattern.html which E is very happy with and looking forward to wearing tomorrow. I've also borrowed a basket from my SIL and I'm sure I can find something at home to put in it, so I haevnt had to buy anything at all.
I'm really looking forward to getting her dressed tomorrow :)
