We've had 'team around the child' meetings and tours before, but this is his first classroom experience. Hoping it's a positive first impression for both parties. I feeling quite abandoned by his pre school so really need to get the primary school on board and hope that the pre school haven't misled them with their rubbish.

Really hope this is a positive start to the future.
I may have missed it apologies, is it a special school?
I hope it all goes well today x

Hope he has a good time (and you do too). I remember how my daughter loved her first visit - she didn't want to leave!

it's mainstream. the primary school in our village, which makes it sound quite exclusive but we actually live in a large village with lots of service families so it's a large primary. we are busy trying to arguing funding; battle between health and education.
I really annoyed by the pre school as they seem to have taken the attitude that Luke only has a month left with them so they've lost interest. In May I sent a copy of a very important OT report and list of goals to help with his fine motor skills and explain why he finds it so difficult to stay on task and hold his pencil correctly. Last week I had a consultation with his key worker who wasn't aware of this report and that the SENCO probably had it??? So I spoke to the manager and suggested that she make all the staff aware of it, she said that she didn't know about it. I really need them to be aware of all Luke's issues so that they can feed this back to the EP assessment. They are overly positive to the point that it makes me feel like a neurotic mother but this is only because I don't think they appreciate or understand Luke's disability. Their ignorance could cost us funding! arghhhhhh rant over.

That's really annoying. Have you had any contact with the SENCO at the primary school?
19/06/2013 at 09:47
yes, but the current SENCO is due to move on after summer. So difficult to build a relationship. They have the notes of the meetings, but as I found these often just get filed and not used as a working document!
It sounds awful but it feels like Luke will have to fail before they realise his issues. I hope not, I hope he thrives but I worry...
I wondering whether starting your relationship with the senco at the primary school might be more effective.
I really hope this is the beginning of things improving. I know a few families with special needs children (but they are in special schools) and they all say you have to be a dog with a bone, forget worrying about bring neurotic, you fight for your child unashamedly. I know you shouldnt have to.

Hope it went well Carole. Is the funding you need to fight for to have someone help him in class?
