Should I let them cool in the tin? I just tried to take a couple of bits out but they broke up but its still quite warm. Scrummy though... a bloody diet breaker!

Yes let them cool before cutting and removing them. I absolutely love flapjacks and still use the excuse that the oats are good for my milk supply!

I always cut while warm in the tin and then leave to cool . Scoop out the first one whilst still warm though, means you can get the other pieces out neatly (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!).

there was one floating about the old hitched that used a tin of condensed milk I think

I used this one
was yummy but I don't think I cooked for long enough as they broke up easily. Still soooo tasty though!

It's a really basic one ML!
250g butter, 200g sugar (brown), 4-6 tablespoons golden syrup, 500g oats.
I normally shove an extra glug of golden syrup in and don't quite use the full 500g of oats, taking 50g off stops them from being dry and crumbly.
Chuck the butter, sugar and syrup into pan and melt, then add oats and mix. Stick in a smallish tray and bake at 170-180 (I always go lower as mines a fan and a lower temp for a bit longer keeps them gooey) for about 15 mins, or until the top starts to brown.
I cut in the tray and dig out the first one and scoff it straight away so that when they cool you can get the rest out neatly :)
