B went for his appointment with the paedatric gastro consultant today. B had to have lots of blood tests and was quite nervous/upset about it. The nurses were absolutey fantastic. He sat on my lap with an arm behind my back. A nurser in front of him distracted him with practising blowing bubbles. Then the Dr and the nurse behind took the blood.
I'm not sure he realised what happened and he got a car at the end of it so he was extremely pleased. He has to have more bloods done but alas that won't be at the same place and I can't imagine everyone is as good as them.

Glad it went well and he wasn't traumatised by it all.

How fantastic if then, being treated with care and consideration is priceless!

I said to one of the nurses 'you are wonderful at this, but then you probably get to practise 15 times a day' At the end I again thanked her and said how impressed I was and she started to dismiss my compliments and then conceded she really appreciated that I appreciated her doing it well.
It really could have been awful for him as they took quite a few vials and certainly after reading Carole's threads in the past I was nervous for him.

Glad it went well QI and that B, with the nurses help, took it in his stride.

Well done B! Blood tests can be daunting so its great when they go well.
Addenbrooks are equally as fab, but S has had it too many times now, she knows what's coming, so kicks up a fuss now. However she has a favourite 'doing' book that the play leader has in her distraction box that has a magic toilet in that she loves, and that just about persuades her it'll be ok! Are local hospital has a fab 'jungle room' for kids blood tests with all 4 walls muraled with jungle and you have to find what's missing on the giraffe/where the gorilla, etc whilst the nurse takes your blood. I like that as well.

Weekender - the longest test takes 6 weeks to process, so all results should be back by April, which seems ages away.
Catarina - I did wonder whether I would need to put a shout out for you and Carole for tips for the future. He may have to have an endoscopy if the tests come back positive and I'm dreading that.

Fingers crossed they come back clear QI, and yheres no need for the endoscopy x
