So Friday night the wind blew part of our fence down.. hes been out there since 11 and actually doing a really good job.. it's not cost him much but more time and effort I guess..I offered him some cash for it..saved us having to get someone 7nto replace it... What I am asking how much would you give them?

Hes no where near finished so will take him a good few more hours yet.

I'd probably give a £20 DIY voucher and a bottle of wine.

If he's done it off his own bat I'd ask him what he'd like to be paid for it (and agree a price now before he realises how many hours it will take him!) we paid for somebody professional to repair our fence posts and it cost £100's so giving him £50-100 is still a lot less than you would have paid someone professional.

Sorry, cut answer short as we were on the wrong train lol!

If you try and pay as you would a tradesman it gets awkward, I think, but you want to do more than just a box of chocs, for example.

Oh bottom. I just thought - was the arrangement that he'd do it for cash?

I could get someone in for less than £100/day, so I'm probably thinking of that. Good point about the area rates!

Well it was our fence between our gardens he knocked this morning to say he was going to fix it.. I think some cash and a bottle of wine/beers would go down well.

Hes done a really good job snd we get on well. He actually didnt have to spend a lot to do it.. it was more his time and his family are lovely so guess just a small thanks would do. If had spent lots then I would happily go halfs.

No arangement I just offered some money to him for doing it. I dont think he expected me too because he only brought nails and we have left over soil in our drive way that he used it was more his time tbh

£20 and bottle of wine or a four pack of beer should sort it then. Tbh it sounds like he enjoyed doing it. Lucky you having such a good neighbour-we have a missing panel after the recent storms but it will have to wait until we can get the pro to come round and quote then fix it at a time when we're at home.
