Wood, we did have a glass TV stand, but it wasn't practical with the children, so we had a huge wooden thing with big cupboards in to store their toys.  We've got a cream fabric sofa, which is really comfy, but needs a damn good cleaning.  Definately not practical with two babies, but i'm reluctant to buy new until they've grown up.

In the kitchen we've got a wooden beech dining table and brown leather chairs.

    We have a mix.

In the lounge, we have a black glass and chrome TV stand, and black leather sofas. Will only have leather, as they can just be wiped clean. With 4 kids, fabric sofas would be a nightmare.

In the conservatory/play room/dining room, we have another black leather sofa, and a wooden topped table and chairs, with metal legs. There is also a small glass table.

Reason I ask is because we have ordered a brown leather sofa (not dark brown) and some wooden furniture, tv unit and small tables. I really like the stuff we've bought but was thinking maybe I'm getting old fashioned? Because its more practical than pretty iyswim? I love pretty shabby furniture (French style) but it doesn't work with kids! So i suppose what I'm asking if you think it would look ok?

I have lots of white wood in my living room, stairs, door, shelf..

We have got the brown leather coming and oak furniture??

    I think that'll look nice.

If I didn't have kids, i'd have different furniture, but I went for stuff that would survive with kids around. I've had my sofa for 5.5 years, and it still looks brand new.

    It doesn't sound old fashioned.

    I think it sounds nice.

We have a black and grey sofa which is fabric but leather arms (sounds odd but it's nice! ) and a wooden dining table and side tables. Our tv is mounted on the wall over a wooden mantlepeice and the 'fireplace' has wooden shelves built in.

Our bedroom is all white (wood) furniture.

Ok thanks all, I think it will be fine it's just when you go for a different style it worries me slightly it will look weird.

AK, I'm very looking forward to a leather sofa, we have had 2 material sofas in 4 years so not very economical for us. We have paid alot more for the leather but hoping to have it at least 6-7 years maybe more.

I paid £444 for my 3 + 2 seater sofas, so I am chuffed with how long they have lasted.

I'm dreading the day I have to replace them, I doubt i'll get such a bargain.

We have a mixture of different woods. I've got material sofas which were bought way before children. I use throws to protect them from the cat hairs and child. Can definitely see the benefit of leather.

I love the look of oak furniture. If I was buying I'd definitely be considering oak. Sadly we've got to buy a new boiler which is hardly an exciting purchase!

AK that was a bargain price for sofas! I've had mine for at least 10 years and they are still in very good shape. When I first met my H his old sofa sagged in the middle. When we were sitting next to each other the cat had to cling her claws in to stop herself rolling down into the dip!

Mainly oaky wood. We don't have any glass, and though I love shabby chic white stuff my H isn't a fan really and it wouldn't really work with our sofa and the doors downstairs, but I have an old white dresser with mirrors in the bedroom that I love.
