Have any of you been referred to the hospital by your Optician? i went to the opticians two weeks ago, and explained I had been having lots of headaches and felt my prescription had changed. I had put headaches down to tiredness and interrupted sleep. When try did the digital photo of my eye they picked something up that shows pressure in the head. She sad she needed to refer me to hospital but two weeks on I've not heard anything from anyone.
Should i be concerned? how long should the referral take to come through??

I used to manage a GP practice, the way it (used) to work although things may have changes is the opticians filled in a form called a GOS18. Then that was sent to the GP practice for them to read and use Choose and Book (computer system) to book a hospital appt for you, and they'd have to scan in your referral to attach. You'd then get a letter inviting you to an appt. The optician can ask or an urgent referral or a routine one. I wouldn't have thought 2 weeks was long for you to have heard. I our practice routine referrals were only logged onto the system a few times a week once they stacked up, otherwise you employed someone to do between 5- 20 minutes work a day. It made more sense to do them all at once.
If you haven't heard in the next week then I'd chase it up.

I think some opticians can refer directly to the hospital now as I'm sure I've seen patients admitted that way. I'd call the optician and ask them when they expect you to be seen and what the plan is.
