All our local pubs (and by local I mean walking distance) are rubbish in terms of gardens and food. We always end up driving to a lovely little place on the lake, with ducks and a mini play area for the kids. They serve food which is nic but outside space is limited, lots of it but all very shaded.
We discovered a pub over Orpington way last year which has a massive outdoor area, bouncy castle, face painting and best of all a BBQ. The place was heaving! And yesterday we went to a simlar pub in Sutton at Hone with BBQ and lovely outdoor space. But its really annoying we have to drive.
Growing up my dad used to do the BBQ for a pub round the corner so I always thought it was normal. I've got lovely memories of sitting outside with a burger and glass of st clements. Then when I got older I'd do the BBQs at a pub I worked in.
Why is it very rare these days - well it seems to be where I live. Do you have anything like that local to you?

We don't have any local pubs near to us, let alone a local which does a BBQ. Like you, when we were growing up we lived 3 doors away from the local pub, and had some great summer afternoons at the local BBQ.
Sadly it seems a thing of the past, not sure why really. I guess the fact that all the pubs are closing down because people can buy booze cheaper in the supermarkets doesn't help.

Oh stop I'm so jealous of you all with your pubs and BBQs
growing up we always spent afternoons in pubs with gardens and play areas, it was great. We knew a few decent child friendly pubs when we lived in England, no BBQs though, I don't know why more pubs don't do the BBQ thing, they'd make a killing.

We have a couple of pubs in the village with nice gardens but none of them do bbqs. Where we used to live the social club we belonged to used to do a few nd they were gorgeous

That's what H and I were saying LB, they'd get the punters in no problem! Us Brits love a good old barbie and beer.

Our local pub does a BBQ. It has a big play area for the kids, and dirt cheap drinks.
My Mum used to work there when I was a kid, so I spent a lot of time there. A lot of the regulars still go in there, and treat my boys like their grandkids. C absolutely loves it there too.
It is walking distance, which is always handy.
I'm surprised more places don't do it TBH.

None round here do that. Do you think they're not as common nowadays because of food hygiene regs?

Could well be but if they have food cert already for inside i wouldn't have thought it would be much difference for outside?
