Can't believe I've not posted this yet today
K has lost her school jumper, £20 down the pan. It's first day back for her today and she can't find it she thinks she left in in the gym last day of term. Just like when she left her shoes there and lost those as well
Suitable punishment for a 13yo who needs to learn to look after her stuff? Buy a new jumper with her pocket money? Grounded? No new phone for a while? Suggestions please. FYI we made her pay half the cost of losing her shoes, so £20, when she lost those. But she's clearly not learnt from that lesson.

Oooh, I don't know, I am a softy and would prob think that these things happen lol. I would say buy a new one with her pocket money (how much does she get?) not grounding or no phone.

You'll soon learn you can't be a softy Fi once Liam is doing your nut in about this stuff. She gets £40 a plus plus her phone. She's just so blase about it "oh well mum and dad will get me a new one"

I know, I am going to walked all over! What a shame though, that's 1/2 her pocket money, she would get a shock though, so maybe try that. Poor K PMSL

Go to lost property and find a minging one and make her wear it. Give her no say in her next choice of school shoes. Change your wifi password and switch off the 3G on her new phone.

Sshh, I am soooooo glad you weren't my mum lol

Sshh is harsh!
I'd be making her replace it from her pocket money tbh, if she doesn't like that then shell need to go cold
Ooo Sshh you are harsh
We were always made to contribute from our pocket money when we lost things.

Sssh love it although think we will stick with paying half unless h goes soft on her.

you could always suggest that you will replace the jumper be buy the budget/less trendy version. I know I would have been mortified at that age if I didn't wear the 'in' style of uniform.

I think £20 for a school jumper is obscene anyway! I'd make her try to find it first, otherwise make her pay for a new one - she needs to learn she cant just do it and get it replaced. If she kicks off, I;d take her phone away for a few days too.

Carole its school issued £20

Just a quick thought but are you sure she's lost it? Is there any issues at school that maybe someone is taking it off her?? First the shoes then the jumper?
If not and she really has been careless then I'd not replace the jumper I'd make her go without, or if she has to wear it as part of uniform I'd do as shhh suggests and get her to go to list property to look for one

What about making her sell something she has/likes on eBay and using the money to pay/ contribute to the new jumper. She's probably not that bothered about losing her school jumper as she doesn't like it anyway. But if she has to sell a top she really likes to pay for it she may realise what it means

No CP nothing like that. She's just bloody divvy! H has told her she needs to replace it herself.

I would get her to replace it by doing £20 worth of jobs around the house~ over a couple of really boring weekends!that is the only thing that actually bothers my 12 yr old plus having her phone or tv taken away, nothing else works!!!

WamethystS - something really boring like tidying and sweeping the garage with no music allowed for a whole afternoon when she would rather be with her friends

If you can't buy a plain cheaper version (this would have been hell at our school) I'd make her sell something nice she wears to earn the money back for a new one.
