We have a miele vacum cleaner that I am generally happy with. However, we are fed up of the cylinder part of it and having hoses everywhere. We are going to change it to an upright.
So, if you have an upright which one do you have?

Weve got a Dyson and i love it, not had any problems with it. But never had any other vacuum cleaner so nothing to compare it to really.

We bought a new one a few months ago after my old (about 12 years I'd had it) cheap (£60-70 at the time I think) panasonic one died. I spent ages looking online at the reviews and on Which? etc, and my cleaner also said that it's not worth spending a fortune on one, she's used loads of different types and they don't do that much of a better job.
We ended up getting a Vax cleaner - this one:
It had a fairly decent Which? review, I think one of the downsides was the size of the cylinder, but it's really easy to empty that it's not that much of a problem. Also, the hose is a little tricky at first to put the attachments on, but it's fine once you're used to it. It's really powerful, the first time I used it it felt like the carpet was going to be sucked up too! Overall I'm really pleased with it.

I have the dyson ball and I love it x

I've got a Miele Cylinder - do they not do upright? If not get a Dyson. Nothing else compares to Miele or Dyson.

I like my Dyson. It's too heavy for stairs though, so we use a Henry for that. I would keep your meile for the stairs and get a Dyson.

I've got a Dyson ball - mine's quite lightweight so its OK on the stairs, but we failed to measure the length of the hose before buying and discovered it doesn't stretch as far as the old one did so I have to balance said vacuum on our narrow stairs to clean with it. Have contemplated getting a cheap stair cleaner one but done nothing about it.
I also don't like the fittings on the hose as much as the ones on our old Dyson. It doesn't have a tapered end so doesn't get right into the corners like the other one did. The ball is good though, very good for going around toys when I'm just doing a quick clean (lazy icon).

Dyson ball and I love love love it!
I had a problem with the filter dropping out of the ball a few months ago so I phoned Dyson and they couldn't have been more helpful. I had a new filter in the post within a few days free of charge. (And my hovers 2 years plus!)

We've s Dyson and I'd never buy anything else.
My mom owns and works in a cleaning business and only ever uses Dysons. My dad owns a separate cleaning company and has a mix of Dyson and Henry's but they obviously aren't upright.
How often do you use ir? How big is your house and how messy or dusty does it get? I love that I can use Dyson on all floor surfaces and you really can see the crap it picks up from my reasonably clean house.

Dyson Ball here too. I love it as much as you can love a domestic appliance!

Thanks. I will have a look at them. Although the Dyson ball seems popular.
Can I just ask what sort of floor surfaces you have. Downstairs and in the bedrooms we either have wooden/tiled or laminate flooring. It is only part of the stairs and landing that is carpeted.
I am FOREVER using the hoover. I have a 2.5 year old and 1 year old who find it difficult to get the food into their mouths!

We have a vax, one specifically for pets as we have 2 long haired cats, but it works well on the tiles in the bathroom and the laminate in the kitchen as well

We have laminate in a couple of rooms, tiles in the bathroom, vinyl in the kitchen and carpets everywhere else - it works great on all of them, and is pretty light to carry up and down the stairs, or vacuum the stairs.

another vote for Dyson, not sure what model but we've had it about 8 years and it's still good! I'd definitely get another Dyson next time.

Dyson ball lightweight here, recommend only down side is that the cable could do with being longer

Dyson Animal here. Had it about 9yrs. Only one thing went wrong with it but was replaced under warranty about 6yrs ago.

I have carpets and tiles. My Dyson works well on both!
The only thing it's difficult with is the front door mat, it's suction is so strong it just pulls the mat up so I have to stand on it whilst hoovering.
Also the cable could be longer!

I loved my Dyson, but left it at an exboyfs house along with a load of my other belongings. He was too much of a psycho for me to go back. I hate squat Hoovers that follow you around the room like an irritating dog, uprights are far better!

Dyson here, not the ball but we love it, the suction is amazing
