Got in tonight to open up a court summons for speeding on 12th August 2012-doing 36 in a 30 limit.
They want me in court next tues and this is genuinely the first and only paperwork received for this and I have no idea where I stand?!will they believe me?the helpline shut at 3 so can't call until Tomo...I feel sick!

I don't ave personal experience. Is there any phone number on there? Do they give details of the offence? Is there ny Chance they sent correspondence to an old address? If you are unable to contact anyone turn up to court and plead your innocence. The DVLa will need to prove that they sent you the warning letters. I doubt this is the first time this has happened?

I have lived here for 8 years so doubt it would have gone elsewhere...next tues is my daughters birthday too!
The number on the letter will be open at 10 in the morning so will call them then and see what they say..arghhh why can't life just be easy!!

Do you think you were speeding? Hopefully the letter may have been sent in error

Yes : ( I'm not denying the speeding but I absolutely have not had any fines or paperwork until today!x

Try not to worry. I've found courts to be fairly reasonable. If you do have to go, show your willingness to pay the original fine. You may find it gets thrown out because procedures had not been followed and they cannot prove the letters had been sent/received

No actual experience but I'm sure you'll update us tomorrow after calling them and be able to sort it.
I had a court summons once for not paying council tax- I phoned them, paid it, and court date was immediately cancelled.
So sleep well tonight and call them in morning.

If you were to talk to my FIL he would say that they don't have a leg to stand in unless they have sent any previous letters recorded post. So otherwise they have no proof anything else has got to you. He tries getting h to ignore speeding fines this way. So fingers crossed, tell them you received nothing, when they say they did send previous, if they do, then you ask If it was recorded post as like you said you received nothing. Good luck, I'm sure if you pay up they will more than happily write it off!

Hopefully if you call them they will sort it out and as others say it could do you a favour if you've had no other correspondence. Good luck x

I'm sure it can be sorted today on the phone, try not to panic. Your not denying anything so they will more than likely allow you to pay the fine albeit higher end and be done with it. One of the guys I work with is forever getting fines and all sorts, his car was impounded last week! We just call and pay over the phone then all threats are dropped.

Thanks for thinking of me...I called and have to wait for someone to call back on mon x

Well I spoke to court-they are charging me with failing to provide info not the actual speeding...I'm pleading not guilty as I never received the fine therefore never had the chance to and will have to sit and wait to see what happens next, what a bloody pain in the ***!!x

Oh o, I hope it's easy to sort out and they see that you are not guilty
