Just seen this on the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-24606053
The Head of my kids school did something similar with smokers and dog owners, because some parents and kids didn't like to walk through plumes of smoke or past dogs on the way into and out of school.
There are 3 gates for people to get into the school so she told them they were only allowed to congregate at one of the gates if they wanted to smoke or bring dogs along to drop off or pick up their kids. I think it's fair enough really, they actually have access to the biggest and most convenient gate out of all of them because it was the only place the school could install a *** bin!

I think the head teacher did the right thing. Most workplaces wont allow you to smoke immediately outside. We do our best to protect our children from being exposed to smoke, so a congregation of smoking parents outside the gates is not a place I would want my kids to walk through. I don't know if our school has this as a policy but I rarely see many parents smoking to/ from school.

I completely agree with what she has done

I totally agree with the head too. It has never been a problem at E's school but a different story at I's nursery.
I work in children's centre's and if running an adult learning course always ask them to move away from the premises if they want to smoke.

Sounds entirely fair of the head to me too. A number of our parents smoke once they have dropped the children off but they always congregate a good 20-30 yards outside the gate so others don't have to walk directly through it.

I agree with the head too. I hate walking past people smoking

I also hate standing next to someone who obviously smokes as you can smell the stale smoke on them yuk!

FFS a smoking picket. Really?! Says it all doesn't it.

God why can't the parents wait till they're 5 minutes down the road?? Do they not think what sort of message it sends to their kids- not just the smoking but then being aggressive about the head teacher?
